Human nature will cause people to lean towards a single room so as to have the largest audience when one speaks. Several smaller rooms is the correct avenue.

That's not going to happen. They're propping him up in ways that exceed what's imaginable til you experience them 1st hand. (Multiple) proven facts are off topic other than in the chit chat section of the forum because it's bad marketing. I agree it's bad marketing to mention that word but denying the truth borders on ... much worse. Supporting him in failing to disclose events.

Guys, we already have the data on this. ET had a chat room for I believe close to a decade. This unicorn theory that it will be full of conversations about your given market or even the market at all is a fantasy. People go there to "get away" from the market. Most of you will be disappointed by just how little market chatter there is. And two, the benefit of having FX guys and stock guys and oil guys in the same room is so you get "different" perspectives on the market during the little time the market is being talked about. That's why at investment banks you have the fixed income guys chatting with the FX desk and the FX desk chatting with the energy desk and so on. Here is what I predict. We have one big room, with lots of little rooms that will be empty within a month or so. The big room will be crowded at first because of the novelty and then widdle down to a handful of people chatting about politics and religion like is usually the case. Again, we have 10 years of data on this.
I kind of agree -- this isn't the heyday of Trading like how it was in the crazy 90's. -- it will still be...kind of like a ghost town...like how this forum is today. (again, relatively speaking ...compared to the 90's). in the 90's...everyone was trading, you didn't really need skill or talent. People were making money hand over fist then. -- but now, to etch out even a dime...you need true trading prowess. (this discussion kind of reminds me of the trading documentary above...it briefly talks about trading chatrooms in the 90's)
And along with this, the fact that things aren't as nice and neat as some of us would like in the forums also gives me a hint that these same problems will just be magnified in the chat room. The cruz of the problem is that what is good for Baron isn't exactly good for the rest of us traders. By keeping a high signal to noise ratio, this limits postings, and what limits postings limits the popularity and size of ET. Daily traffic to ET is what determines revenue. So its either that Baron gets more revenue, or the traders get a well moderated and individualized forum with real trading talk.
Permitting that nonsense is why I'm not optimistic. It's too profitable to get rid of it. I'm becoming aware of that. It's a site wide phenomenom and problem for those of us who prefer trading topics.
First Amendment and all that jazz. You do know we have a forum here with like 30 million posts discussing "trading topics". Just sayin....
