When investors cannot get physical share certificates how will they be able to get something tangible to prove ownership? especially with the potential risks of brokerages defaulting or SIPC, who knows etc.. So is there any way to still get them? will all companies be forced to stop issuing them when requested or is it still an option?
Many companies still issue certificates. We used go be able to get them with out extreme penalty. Now they make you pay. Sharebuilder online companies may not let you get them at all, even when the company issues them. The companies probably want to get rid of the cost and hassle, so they are leading the change. Certificates or not, companyâs can still lose your ownership. My momâs shares in Solomon Bros were given to some southern state when some takeover occurred. . We were not able to get them back.
