Why I wear a mask. I wear a mask because I do not want to be a vector for a disease that kills about 1% of the people it infects or causes long term serious health issues in another 15% of people. Most of the serious Covid-19 victims are older. As in mothers and fathers, grand mothers and grand fathers, great grand mothers and great grand fathers. Even those who don’t have living parents, etc. they care about, as a good neighbor are we not morally obligated to protect each other if we can? Personally wearing a mask is a bit annoying while working in the current high humdity, high temperature Dallas, TX area. Pushing 4500 lb “Cans” (Air freight containers) on rollers while wearing a mask in such conditions causes it to become saturated with sweat, negating the mask’s effectiveness and making it harder to breathe. My solution is to put on another mask. As a truck driver with this particular account, I’m not obligated to help load or unload. I do so without compensation because it makes the process easier and safer for the other person involved. There are people who have complained about their rights being diminished by wearing a mask. Covid-19 does not care about people’s rights. It will hijack your cells and use them to make more copies of itself and to infect those around you, including those you may care about. In an organized society, there are rights that are conveyed and respected by members of that society. There are also responsibilities that are expected by society to be adhered to by individuals. It is reasonable for members of a community to expect individuals to do what they can to keep members of that community safe. Disease is not a new thing affecting people. Neither are practices of isolation and cleanliness. What is new are the willingness of a large group of people to feel they are not obligated to cooperate in minimizing this disease. A century ago, when communities were much smaller than they are now, a person who did not abide by the rules and interests of the community would be exiled. If they were lucky. Now things are much more anonymous and it seems less people feel accountable to each other. Covid-19 is running rampant because of the selfishness of others. I know I would feel terrible if attended gathering of friends only to later find out I had Covid and as a result, someone else got seriously sick or worse. Especially if I didn’t even try to take protective steps. How could I look at my friend in the eye again. Let’s extend this further. My wearing an appropriate mask properly will help protect my friends and family as well as yours. Are you willing to do the same for me?
Which means the constitution is just a guideline living document. Rights that can be taken away are not really rights. Your prissy view of order collapses into the messy reality.
You do know that you don't have to wear the mask if you are a fair distance away from others, right? Say, 20 feet. That was the initial guideline by Gov. Baker. Wear a mask "if you cannot maintain social distancing", which used be a standard 6 feet. Common sense says to triple that distance, at least. Are you always within 20 feet of someone when you are pushing your "cans"? When you are not, remove the mask so you can breathe!
Yeahno one said drive in your car alone with a mask or work outside alone with a mask...... cmon man read between the lines...
We pull/push the 8’ x 10’ cans side by side, or about 2 feet of space between us, to avoid walking on floor rollers in the truck and in the building. It is beneficial to develop a habit of wearing a mask and keeping a supply of them on hand for backup or for others. That one time you walk into a grocery or gas station without a mask could get you infected and put the ones you spend the most time with at risk. Travel centers and rest areas are better looked at as hot zone central. Face masks, goggles, and gloves are best. How many people had their bare hands on that pump nozzle or rest room water faucet again? How about the people who don’t wash their hands afterward and touch cups, condiments, or packages of food they end up not purchasing? Ever in the mood for a burger afterwards? Developing a habit of always wearing PPE when in the public where it is reasonable to expect close contact with someone or among groups of people, even if not necessarily close, will lower your chance of getting Covid and spreading it to others.
It still amazes me that some dumb asses on here questioning consensus medical advice. Almost 1000 Americans dead just today how many more have to die ?
I figured since you went hysterical I'd give you a time-out to calm yourself down. Masks work. You having a tiny little brain and only seeing snippets of the larger system is your problem. I have working automated trading, I expect you have a mess on your hands the way you see things. Speaking of parts of a whole, the US is a small part of the world. You probably don't have a passport, no need in mommy's basement but other developed countries are doing far better with masks. https://www.forbes.com/sites/joelru...ng-japan-as-coronavirus-cases-remain-low/amp/
