    Ok.

But you don't need a research study to realize:

    1. People expel droplets that contain viruses.
    2. A mask will prevent these "larger" droplets from passing through the mask.

While it is debatable how much of the virus if free floating without being attached to moisture; the above points should be obvious.

The benefits of the above should be obvious as well; this is why these mask have been worn by doctors and Japanese for many many years.

I wonder if surgeons take them off during surgery and whine about how "uncomfortable" they are. I wonder if millions of workers that use them regularly ever just say,

"You know what, fuck it, I'd rather breathe in these contaminants than where this mask."

You don't fool me, I bet you have your mask on right now.

    Not Even Close.
HOSPITALIZATION DUE TO COVID-19 DIAGNOSIS .
    Does Not Qualify.

Somebody get out there in front of a sneezin honkey.

After all the sturm and drang, fretting, on and on, this site should have a handful of vics and a couple of Ventilator Passengers it would seem.

My mistake. You did say "hospitalization".

Tony was talking to his doctor regularly and he would have been admitted if he had respiratory difficulty but he recovered without getting desperately ill.

I don't have my mask on because Im in my office with the door closed :)

Again, it comes down to how much the protection is increased. I don't know what that is. I agree with everything you say. Surgeons, however, knew they were signing up for this. People going to the beach don't like to wear masks at the beach. It just makes the whole beach thing a lot less fun.

So there is a give and take and it has to do with overall risk and perceived risk. its just not black and white (can I say that anymore??)

"no evidence that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, can spread to people through water in these places."

If there were evidence of Covid being spread at the beaches, the CDC would have said so.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/daily-life-coping/beaches-pools.html#:~:text=The places we visit to,through water in these places.

The places we visit to swim, play, and relax in water include beaches — swim areas in oceans, lakes, and other natural bodies of water — and pools, water playgrounds, and hot tubs. There is no evidence that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, can spread to people through water in these places.

In or out of the water, stay at least 6 feet away from people you don’t live with

The virus is thought to spread mostly person-to-person, by respiratory droplets released when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs. The virus might also spread to hands from a contaminated surface and then to the nose, mouth, or possibly eyes. Infected people can spread the virus whether or not they have symptoms.

Fortunately, there are several actions you can take to reduce your risk of getting or spreading the virus when you go to public swim areas, such as beaches, pools, water playgrounds, and hot tubs.

  9. I wear one of the ubquituous, 3-ply surgical masks when in public and at my company’s terminal. I also wear it when entering the hotzone where I live.

The point of wearing the mask for me is three fold:

    1. To buy me enough time to safely distance myself from someone who is displaying symptoms.
    2. To provide some protection while in a retail store line in case of a person before me left aerosols lingering in the air.
    3. To be respectful of those who work in front line positions, such as cashiers and many others.

The 3 ply surgical mask should not be expected to provide protection in a higly infectuous area for more than a few minutes or if not snuggly worn.

When running low on masks, I will leave some on the dash of my car for the sun to decontaminate, along with my goggles. Before touching high risk items with my hands, I will wear gloves and use a paper towel in my hand to handle the potentially infectuous item.

The principles involved in the reducing spread of this virus is “Defense in Depth” and “Cooperation”.

I don’t know how many reinfection cycles in will take to get everyone on board on PPE best practices, but this flu season should be interesting.

If indeed that is the method of transmission.
