The chair post got me thinking about this. Humans are highly affected by environment. I am a firm believer in stacking the odds in my favor every way I can. Here are a few things I have tweaked to attempt to give myself every edge possible. Any of these may need to be tweaked and could affect your trading performance: - chair â Aeron. Just do it. - monitor - positioning, refresh rate, LCD vs CRT - air - quality, humidity (plants can help here) - sound - loud PC fans, music - colors (add some color to those institutional walls) and light Many people also don't recognize the effect their health has on trading. First and foremost, KEEP YOURSELF HYDRATED. Drink 2 liters of water per day if you can. You will not believe the effect this will have on you. You will have more energy, have fewer headaches, and possibly need less sleep (all of these happened to me). Second, get some exercise FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. This was another big one for me. I was exercising at night. Switching to mornings made a big difference in my energy level all day long. Third, eat as many vegetables as you can at every meal and cut out SUGAR (and other simple carbs) and caffeine from your diet as much as possible. I know nobody else is going to do this, but I have done it and it has helped me immensely. And, finally, try to get at least 7 hours of sleep per night and try to sleep at the same time every night. Oh yeah, donât drink heavily on a night before you trade. I know, not the sexy, high-rolling trader lifestyle, but it works for me. I'm sure there are plenty of very successful traders that don't do any of this, but if you are like me and want to put everything possible in your favor, you might want to look at some of these. If nothing else you will be happier and healthier while still making the same amount of money.
