This is the same national union executive who claimed that most union members in AOC's district supported Trump. Laughable. Here is the article again showing the failures of the national Teamster leadership. The Gigantic Failure That Led to the Teamsters’ Decision Not to Endorse Harris or Trump https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2024/09/teamsters-union-sean-obrien-harris-trump.html
You can attempt to make the argument that the Teamsters should support no candidates and merely confine their efforts to workplace lobbying However the purpose of the union includes the requirement to advocate for policies which most help their members -- otherwise they are failing their members. There is no question of which party's national platform most helps the Teamsters. Obviously it is the Democrats -- and not the Republicans whose stance on all union-related issues are anti-union.

Over one million Teamsters endorse Kamala Harris - the organization has 1.3 million members. And I will note the list below is just a partial list. Not a single Teamster organization has endorsed Trump. Councils representing one million Teamsters endorse Kamala Harris https://www.wispolitics.com/2024/ha...-one-million-teamsters-endorse-kamala-harris/ Local Teamsters unions across the country, including in key battleground states of Michigan, Nevada, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, have rallied around Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz. Collectively, these unions represent one million Teamsters. These local Teamsters have committed to immediately begin knocking doors and engaging in other voter contact efforts across the battlegrounds. Many Teamsters have also taken to the airwaves — on local and national television — to make sure their members know that Kamala Harris has spent her entire career championing labor, while Donald Trump celebrated firing striking workers and his Project 2025 agenda would fundamentally undermine the right to organize. The list of local Teamsters organizations endorsing Vice President Harris includes: Teamster Retirees Teamsters National Black Caucus Teamsters Joint Council 43 (Michigan) Teamsters Joint Council 39 (Wisconsin) Teamsters Joint Council 42 (Southern Nevada) Teamsters Joint Council 7 (Northern Nevada) Teamsters Joint Council 40 (Western PA and Northern WV) Teamsters Joint Council 28 (WA, AK and Northern ID) Teamsters Joint Council 32 (MN, IA, ND, SD, and WI) Teamsters Joint Council 25 (Illinois) Teamsters Joint Council 13 (Missouri) Teamsters Local 623(Philadelphia, PA) Teamsters Local 122(Boston, MA) Teamsters Local 186 (Ventura, CA) Teamsters Local 572(Carson, CA) Teamsters Local 769(Miami, FL) Teamsters Local 848(Long Beach, CA) Teamsters Local 238 (Cedar Rapids, IA) Teamsters Local 237 (NYC) Teamsters Local 396 (Southern California) Teamsters Local 89(Kentucky and Indiana) Teamsters Local 202 (New York) Teamsters and other labor leaders have also spoken out to state their support for the Vice President: On WXYZ (Detroit, MI) Michigan Teamsters President Kevin Moore: “In Michigan, we understand this is a blue wall state. We’ve seen four years of Donald Trump. It’s the same old rhetoric and we’re not going back. Tim Walz and Kamala Harris give us a vision for all people.” On WNEM (CBS Flint, MI), Michigan Teamsters President Kevin Moore: “Our people in Michigan are fired up and they’re ready to go to support Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. […] We’ve seen Donald Trump’s four years. We know what the sequel will be — same old, same old. […] our people and our citizens in Michigan can see through all the rhetoric and lies. They want substance, they want action. They don’t want a lot of hatred and vile-spewed negativity.” On WWMT (CBS Grand Rapids, MI): Reporter: “Michigan Teamsters President Kevin Moore says that Harris and Walz have consistently demonstrated their dedication to championing the labor movement. […] Michigan Teamsters President Kevin Moore: “The joint council and the teamsters of Michigan know it’s too important… We’re going to do a full force endorsement for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.” On Scripps News, United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain: “I believe their union, just like our union, and most other unions I know of in this country, are going to vote heavily for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. It’s a clear cut choice [between] who stands with working people, and who doesn’t.” On MSNBC’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell, United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain:“Donald Trump showed that through whatever you call that town hall, that he has no clue what autoworkers or any working-class people in this country, the reality they are living… So you know it is sad, but it is just a testament to who [Trump] is and what he represents. He doesn’t give a damn about working-class people, he never has and he never will. I’ve said it before and I will say it until Donald Trump loses, Trump is all talk. Kamala Harris walks the walk and we know who is on our side.” On CNN’s News Central, Teamsters Black Caucus Chair James Curbeam: “We got to make sure we educate our cohorts about what is best for us, and I say us as working people. We cannot vote against our own best interests. And we talk about strikes. Donald Trump laughed at us and talking about strikes, he applauded Elon Musk for [allegedly] firing workers and any elected official past or present to laugh at us and workers standing up for their right is a problem.” In Spectrum News, Teamsters Local 237 President Gregory Floyd said “‘Our members want me to endorse Kamala Harris for president of the United States,’ Floyd told NY1 in an exclusive interview. “Floyd said Harris is the candidate for working people, pointing to legislation passed under the Biden administration that provided tens of billions of dollars to shore up the union’s financially troubled pension plan.” In the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Teamsters Joint Council 39 President Bill Carroll “said as vice president for President Joe Biden, Harris has been part of ‘the most pro-union administration ever.’ “‘As vice president of the most pro-union administration ever, Kamala Harris worked with the Teamsters and other union workers to pass the historic Butch Lewis Act which has saved the pensions of over a million retirees to date,’ Carroll said.” In CNN, Teamsters Black Caucus Chair James Curbeam said that he was disappointed Teamsters President Sean O’Brien did not stand up to former President Donald Trump, whom he described as a “bully,” and questioned the polling the union cited to defend it’s decision to not endorse a presidential candidate for the first time in nearly three decades. Teamsters said internal polling showed that a majority of its members supported Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris. Curbeam asked, “What is the actual number of people that took part in the polls?” and claimed that “the poll numbers are skewed.” “‘Any labor leader thinking that Donald Trump is the candidate of choice should turn their union card in. This man laughed at the most valuable tool that all labor unions have, that is a strike,’ Curbeam said, referring to a conversation between Trump and Elon Musk last month in which Trump applauded Musk for supposedly firing workers. “Curbeam said the union’s Black Caucus is doing its own organizing in support of Harris.” In Rolling Stone, Michigan Teamsters Joint Council 43: “Both Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz have consistently demonstrated their dedication to championing the labor movement, safeguarding social security, and ensuring access to qualify healthcare for All Americans, including women’s reproductive rights.” In Politico, Teamsters Joint Councils 7 and 42: “which are made up of 39 local unions representing 300,000 members in California, Nevada, Hawaii and Guam — wrote in a statement that Harris and her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz have a history of supporting expanded labor protections for workers, like the proposed Protect the Right to Organize Act and a Minnesota law that will ban employers from forcing workers to attend anti-labor meetings.” In TribLive, Pennsylvania Teamsters Joint Council 40 President Carl Bailey: “said the vote by board members to back Harris, the Democratic candidate, over GOP nominee Donald Trump was unanimous. “He said Western Pennsylvania Teamsters endorsed Harris because “she is the best for our locals and the best for unions.” “He cited Harris’ support for the PRO Act, a bill to expand labor protections to workers across the country, even in states with anti-labor organizing laws. “Bailey also praised Harris and President Joe Biden for helping save the pensions of Teamsters, including those of local members, as part of federal aid during the pandemic. “‘We will never forget that,’ Bailey told TribLive Wednesday.” In the Chicago Tribune, Teamsters Joint Council 25: “‘We experienced four years under Donald Trump,’ Gianni said. ‘Dealing with the [National Labor Relations Board], for example, proved to be incredibly difficult under his anti-union appointees and policies.’ “Harris, Gianni said, would be a ‘stronger voice for working people.’” In KGAN (CBS Cedar Rapids, IA), Teamsters Local 238 Principal Officer Jesse Case said “Vice President Kamala Harris has been an integral part of the most pro-union presidential administration since Franklin D. Roosevelt,” said Jesse Case, Principal Officer of Teamsters Local 238. “Her steadfast support for labor has been evident in every step she’s taken alongside President Biden, including their critical effort to save hundreds of thousands of Teamsters’ pensions, and their commitment to rebuild the National Labor Relations Board into an organization that consistently defends the rights of workers. We trust her leadership and vision to continue advancing the fight for working people from the White House.”
https://www.cnn.com/politics/live-news/trump-harris-wisconsin-10-03-24#cm1tmewcz00053b6m5tfj33vr Firefighters union decides not to endorse a presidential candidate From CNN's Kit Maher The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) has decided not to endorse a presidential candidate this election cycle in an effort to “preserve and strengthen” unity, according to a statement from the organization’s president. “Today, the IAFF Executive Board, by a margin of 1.2%, voted to not endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election. Over the past year, the IAFF took unprecedented steps to hear our members’ views on the candidates and the policy issues that matter most to them,” labor leader Edward A. Kelly said in a statement. “The IAFF Executive Board determined that we are better able to advocate for our members and make progress on the issues that matter to them if we, as a union, are standing shoulder-to-shoulder. This decision, which we took very seriously, is the best way to preserve and strengthen our unity.” The Trump campaign called decision to decline to endorse a 2024 candidate “another blow” to Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, noting the union’s endorsement of then-candidate Joe Biden ahead of the 2020 election. The campaign also pointed to the Teamsters Union’s non-endorsement last month, a major union that has backed the Democratic presidential nominee in the past several elections. Both the Democratic and Republican vice presidential nominees, Walz and Ohio Sen. JD Vance, spoke at the IAFF convention in Boston in late August. Vance was booed during parts of his speech, one time particularly after he said he and former President Donald Trump are “proud to be the most pro-worker Republican ticket in history.” This post has been updated with the Trump campaign’s reaction.
https://www.cnn.com/2024/10/05/poli...ex.html?iid=cnn_buildContentRecirc_end_recirc Harris tries to secure labor support amid signs of weakening CNN — Vice President Kamala Harris’ struggle to match previous Democratic nominees’ levels of support with union voters is coming under more intense scrutiny following decisions by the Teamsters and the International Association of Fire Fighters to withhold endorsements in the presidential race. Leaders from both unions, in public statements, cited internal disagreements within their organizations as their primary reason for staying on the sidelines. “This decision, which we took very seriously, is the best way to preserve and strengthen our unity,” Edward Kelly, general president of the International Association of Fire Fighters, said in a statement this week explaining the choice. The Trump campaign has celebrated these announcements, saying they are a sign that organized labor is fleeing Harris and the Democratic Party. The campaign on Thursday called the firefighters’ union’s decision to decline to endorse a 2024 candidate “another blow” to Harris, pointing to the union’s early endorsement, months ahead of the Democratic primary, of Biden The reality, though, is murkier – and reflects the upheaval and increasingly testy internal politics among the unions’ leaders. Harris retains a polling lead over Trump with union voters and households, but the margin, according to multiple surveys, is smaller than those enjoyed by Joe Biden four years ago and roughly even with Hillary Clinton’s levels in 2016. Exit polls from CNN following the past two presidential elections found Biden with a 16-point lead among voters from union households. Clinton, whose loss came down to thousands of votes in labor-heavy states, won by 9 points among the same cohort.
teamsters just told the ports that we are going to shut down the country if you consider automation to make port operations more efficient and effecteve and cheaper to operate to reduce costs to the consumer and instead should give them a 70% pay increase...sounds about gangster right.... fuck them and their members...they should be fragmented and let them fight for their own workers in their own ports instead of holding an entire country hostage so that we can remain in the 1980s and behind the rest of the world... seirously for 45,000 workers?? would have been cheaper to bust them and get replacements and pay them a severance and give the new workers a smaller raise.
Yeah, the Teamster's tactic is a form of hostage-taking. Something they learned very well after decades of negotiations with corporations and politicians. The Longshoremen's Port strike ended quickly with a tentative deal. Thus, the White House needed to get something on the table for the strikers to temporarily suspend the strike to allow the country to pass through Hurricane season. Part of the deal they're being given, their pay will increase from $39 per hour to $63 per hour over several years. Simply, the leadership of these strikers was smart because they knew we had Hurricane Milton, Hurricane Kirk, and Hurricane Leslie on their way to make landfall in the United States...adding more misery on top of Hurricane Helene. If I'm not mistaken, the last time they threatened to strike was also during a pending hit from multiple Hurricanes. Further, the strike could have cost the economy billions of dollars per day...negatively impacting the economy. Biden helped end the dockers strike by saying reopening the ports to help Hurricane Helene victims would be patriotic DETROIT (AP) — Some 45,000 dockworkers at East and Gulf coast ports are returning to work after their union reached a deal to suspend a strike that could have caused shortages and higher prices if it had dragged on. The International Longshoremen’s Association is suspending its three-day strike until Jan. 15 to provide time to negotiate a new contract. The union and the U.S. Maritime Alliance, which represents ports and shipping companies, said in a joint statement that they have reached a tentative agreement on wages. A person briefed on the agreement said the ports sweetened their wage offer from about 50% over six years to 62%. The person didn’t want to be identified because the agreement is tentative. Any wage increase would have to be approved by union members as part of the ratification of a final contract. Talks now turn to the automation of ports, which the unions says will lead to fewer jobs, and other sticking points. Industry analysts have said that for every day of a port strike it takes four to six days to recover. But they said a short strike of a few days probably wouldn’t gum up the supply chain too badly. The settlement pushes the strike and any potential shortages past the November presidential election, eliminating a potential liability for Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee. It’s also a big plus for the Biden-Harris administration, which has billed itself as the most union-friendly in American history. Shortages could have driven up prices and reignited inflation. The union went on strike early Tuesday after its contract expired in a dispute over pay and the automation of tasks at 36 ports stretching from Maine to Texas. The strike came at the peak of the holiday season at the ports, which handle about half the cargo from ships coming into and out of the United States. Most retailers had stocked up or shipped items early in anticipation of the strike. “With the grace of God, and the goodwill of neighbors, it’s gonna hold,” President Joe Biden told reporters Thursday night after the agreement. In a statement later, Biden applauded both sides “for acting patriotically to reopen our ports and ensure the availability of critical supplies for Hurricane Helene recovery and rebuilding.” Biden said that collective bargaining is “critical to building a stronger economy from the middle out and the bottom up.” The union’s membership won’t need to vote on the temporary suspension of the strike. Until Jan. 15, the workers will be covered under the old contract, which expired on Sept. 30. The union had been demanding a 77% raise over six years, plus a complete ban on the use of automation at the ports, which members see as a threat to their jobs. Both sides also have been apart on the issues of pension contributions and the distribution of royalties paid on containers that are moved by workers. Thomas Kohler, who teaches labor and employment law at Boston College, said the agreement to halt the strike means that the two sides are close to a final deal. “I’m sure that if they weren’t going anywhere they wouldn’t have suspended (the strike),” he said. “They’ve got wages. They’ll work out the language on automation, and I’m sure that what this really means is it gives the parties time to sit down and get exactly the language they can both live with.” Kohler said the surprise end to the strike may catch railroads with cars, engines and crews out of position. But railroads are likely to work quickly to fix that. Just before the strike had begun, the Maritime Alliance said both sides had moved off their original wage offers, a tentative sign of progress. Thursday’s deal came after Biden administration officials met with foreign-owned shipping companies before dawn on Zoom, according to a person briefed on the day’s events who asked not to be identified because the talks were private. The White House wanted to increase pressure to settle, emphasizing the responsibility to reopen the ports to help with recovery from Hurricane Helene, the person said. Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su told them she could get the union to the bargaining table to extend the contract if the carriers made a higher wage offer. Chief of Staff Jeff Zients told the carriers they had to make an offer by the end of the day so a manmade strike wouldn’t worsen a natural disaster, the person said. By midday the Maritime Alliance members agreed to a large increase, bringing about the agreement, according to the person. https://fortune.com/2024/10/04/biden-dockers-strike-opening-ports-patriotic-hurricane-helene/ wrbtrader
Why does Tesla not have a Union??? They tried but Elon Musk threatened to fire the employees with encouragement from Trump. Unfortunately for Musk, he realized his auto plant was (still is) suffering production when he tried to go "full automation" on the production floor of his vehicles. He now realizes they're missing the "Human Adaptability" to catch production errors in the vehicles after seeing a reduction in the workforce at the plants. Also, it has resulted in a recall in errors in the autopilot mechanism. He now states that "Excessive Automation" is a mistake. https://www.forbes.com/sites/timoth...is-tesla-in-turmoil-or-in-its-teething-stage/ Now Musk needs to donate and align himself more with Trump because he believes only Trump can stop the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) from investigating multiple Autopilot crashes involving his Tesla vehicles that resulted in a recall. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/26/business/tesla-autopilot-recall-nhtsa-investigation.html Tesla consumers are fucked Do not be surprised to see Musk moving parts of the Tesla production line into Mexico after moving from California to Texas as a way to put pressure on the Unions to stay away from his workers. Musk needs Trump to be on board with EV. Simply, donate money now to key southern states that will profit greatly from EV and hope for the best at a later date even though EV has ramped up under Biden/Harris without Tesla because of its production problems (malfunctions/70% of autopilot accidents/recalls). wrbtrader
