Gun deaths are more avoidable than getting the virus. If you have asthma it is like showing up in a bad part of LA in the wrong gang colors with huge gold chains at 2 am.
Very long analysis from an MD. I disagree with him about the no cure or treatment found version. In that scenario most societies after a few weeks would just take the 1-2% population hit and go on with their lives, just like the title of this thread says. old.reddit.com/r/wallstreetbets/comments/fn3p7h/covid19_thoughts_for_the_market_from_an_md/
Average age of those who died in Italy was 79.5 years. 35% had diabetes. 75% had hypertension. 45% or so had heart issues. Of those who died, more than 66% had 1 or 2 pathologies. 15 people (as of last friday) who were under 50 died from the Coronavirus, and all of them were seriously ill outside of the virus. Add to this that Italy has the oldest population in Europe and one of the highest smoking rates, and, well, there you go.
No question , the raw numbers of deaths without regard to age is fake news hearing 30 TTTTTTTTTrillion in market losses now pick any number you like for 'lives saved' by these epic measures do the division tell me what the $$$$ per life looks like
Hard to guess how much the market would have lost if governments had chosen to pursue life as usual , which wouldn t be possible with overwhelmed medical services, which are now overwhelmed in many places as well. But yes the cure seems worse than the disease, economically and probably humanely if one considers the number of people harmed by the cure
Then again... https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/03/18/coronavirus-will-infect-half-the-global-population-eiu-predicts.html?__source=instagram|main What's 2% of global population come out to?
Maybe we'll get lucky and the virus will mutate into a very mild form. That's what happened with the Spanish Flu, after one year it mutated and the pandemic was over.
https://us.yahoo.com/news/coronavirus-american-children-dying-because-193836995.html There are also more children losing ground with education while at home, more children who will face parents divorces, suicide, and probably see themselves go a further step into poverty because of the economic crisis (not sure how efficient the help package will be in the US, in Europe it isn t that big yet, haven t heard of much help in China)
