Euthanizing them is different from not keeping them alive for a few more months/couple of years at a huge expense to society, probably destroying or seriously harming way more lives in the process.
Everyone is a libertarian when their lives do not do not depend it. The very same 70-year-olds just a few years ago were screaming bloody murder when someone said anything about helping other unfortunates. Rants about "lazy millennials" were "the thing" just very recently and any proposals to help them was met with "where is the money gonna come from?". It's only natural for the people who are not in danger now to be equally dismissive and tell the older generation to "go hide". The government could have said instead "people in vulnerable groups have to self-isolate to avoid getting infected" and help them. We do that with immunocompromised people already. Instead, they elected to enact a nation-wide shutdown at the cost of trillions of dollars and millions of jobs. It might be effective, but it will also widen that generational rift even further. I am not advocating either approach, just saying that there will be unintended social consequences to the one taken.
That's not even remotely what I said. In fact, I didn't even pick a side on this issue. I don't really care what happens. But, the issue is very serious, and more than a little complex. I think @Same Lazy Element is right. The policy solution will strain an already tenuous relationship. The boomer / millennial divide is very real.
No, it's a simple logic process if you take your snowflake emotions out of the equation. Step 1 : Anyone at risk, Old, Unwell or just a scared snowflake, self isolate yourself about 2-3weeks ago, you've really left it to late. ( There call, I'd never hide from a good fight ) Step 2 : Carry on with Life / work don't screw up the entire world Step 3 : Get everyone to go outside kiss and hug everyone. Step 4 : In 2 weeks time, Everyone it's unlikely to harm, will have the virus and be sick. Step 5 : repeat 3 and 4 until nobody new is catching it, ie everyone has had it. Step 6 : Release the old, ill and snowflakes ( Snowflakes last ) into a world where everyone has had it, it'll only take 3months and there will still be a world for them to come back to. Or we screw over the world, it'll take 18months and no way the old and ill and snowflakes can not get exposed over that period so although it'll help health care keep up, it's still a shit show and more will die and more of peoples lives wasted.
Sorry but your writing is very hard to comprehend. Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you saying we should simply let the natural selection take care of this disease, ie. let the weak fall by the wayside and only allow the strong to carry on?
Stop making it sound like the old people are the cause behind the shutdown. Trump and the governors all across the board aren't issuing executive orders to shut down the economy just because they want to save the old people. They're doing this to protect not just the old but EVERYONE.
But that's BULLSHIT, fear mongering, so very very few people younger than 70 have died without health issues, it's not worth considering, just because the few ( 5 maybe ) are being put on repeat by the media, way more than that will die from lack of food / medicines. As said, put away the emotions and the snow flake, millions of people die every damn year in the world, shit happens, toughen up!!
UK Government saying Monday is when they should self isolate, already 200+ dead and 2000nd in hospital, kinda left that too late here.
