I have no idea, that. However, if I were a millennial getting laid off and indebted because the government wants to protect the lives of people over seventy, I'd be ready to riot. Or, more likely, they will say "fuck you" to all debts and obligations they have at the moment. E.g. if the government will not provide student loan relief on the back of this, I think student loan market is toast.
I recently had a big physical at the hospital and I was on the elevator when a nurse was escorting two young female cancer patients (less than 15 years of age) as I was exiting the elevator for some tests. It reminded me that health professionals are just as worried about the ill and afraid of being over-run by the old becoming ill. That's a big worry in Canada considering many hospitals are already at max in some departments with patients. As for student loans...I thought the U.S. government has provided relief for that because I know Canada and a few other countries have done such. In Canada, some provinces have frozen student loan payments for 6 months and longer if/when needed. Jokingly, if there's riots in North America...Hong Kong students still stuck here because of a travel ban will be leading the way. They're very experienced and reminds me of the riots in Seattle and Québec (both of which I experience and was @ ground zero. wrbtrader
Still in the ending process and getting worse daily, not because of the virus, just the over reacting panic.
Being paranoid has never killed anyone. The problem is not the "over reaction". False positive has always been cheap. The problem is the interconnection. It becomes a systemic problem. You have to quarantine the entire world. When shit was local it didn't matters.
What part of nobody is working we are running out of food and important medicine, ruining businesses, crashing the economy, looters soon as people get desperate, then when we are at our weakest expect Russia to take advantage and expand and other wars. This is too much this is going to kill millions to save old sick people that are nearly dead anyway.
Sadly, younger lot are mostly PC ( Wrong ), any mention against some event cancelled regardless of how stupid canceling the event is even out door 1's, gets you instantly flamed on FB and called a BMW 4x4 driver FFS, OMG your stupidity is going to kill us all, they really are that scared from all the media which Trump pointed out and got attacked, OMG we want to be scared and locked in and army patrolling our streets to keep us safe. CRAZY world!!
This is really what it comes down to. Not that I agree that it should be reduced to this, but it is right out in the open. The new generation looks at wealth with envy, and let's be honest, resentment. There is the idea that boomers and gen-X had it easier, and enjoyed a 'golden age' of inflationary policies from the financialization of the US economy. In 2020, that well has somewhat run dry. Suceeding millenials, and gen-Y or Z (recent grads, mid career, etc.) generally have worked hard, paid more for school, and are still getting screwed by policies that punish saving in order to keep asset prices propped up. This magic wealth creation engine has now hit a snag. Covid threatens to derail the entire game of keeping bubbles inflated and savers punished. If that happens, it means millenials and gen-Y will see the boomers and gen-X wealth significantly reduced. Do they really give a fuck about that? Doubt it. Now they are being forced to self isolate and stop working completely to save the (some would say) economically advantaged demographic. The apparent solution to covid is reliant on mutual sacrifice involving two generations that don't really get along.
Yes, same impression here. Pretty sure it got worse in term of energency wards occupancy but when the lockdown started in Spain, a video was posted with approbation on various social media of a doctor in an empty emergency room. He raved on how all streets were empty on his way to the hospital, as well as the emergency ward, and how they could take good care of the few people who popped in that day. At the end he had a group of medical staff standing behing him and clapping... It seemed nuts to me, long queues are standard in emergency wards in many cities even in normal times. A couple of days earlier I was in a private medical center in Madrid to try to pick up podological soles for my daughter before they were likely to close. Can t remember a crowd downstairs and upstairs there were at least 6 staff chatting and no patients( physio/podology floor, no emergency ). The girl at the desk was upset I came before they called me ( they were late to call) but as it turned out the soles had already arrived. Had I waited 2 days more for them to call me the center would have been closed for an undefinite period and daughter without upgraded soles for her treatment. Anyway the 1st story particularly is worrying, if the doc and the public are so happy with empty emergency rooms because they are living in a cage they could as well request castration to expand their lifespan. It works great for pets. A bit more upset than a few hours ago as coach cancelled (not quite legal) tomorrow session, his wife is panicking about the situation and has had their kids locked up since day 1 the schools were closed, even before the quarantine started, so I m afraid she will force him to stop coming (a neighbour complaining had us give up training at the gym as the risks are high for him if the cops show up, some are now asking people jogging alone outside be jailed... society found a new flavour of psychopaths ...). Their teenage kid is usually traing about 10 times a week, and now he is locked 24/7 in a small apartment and their younger one was also training pretty hard, a disaster. Our kids are used to a similar sports schedule, but we do our best to keep them active under the circumstances, which is not exactly easy. Also heard of a lot of paranoid people calling the emergency services in panic because they are afraid of being sick from that oh so deadly disease. They are in such a mess that they do require medical attention and sometimes oxygen , straining resources even more, for sure the media coverage hasn t helped the situation, although one could hope people would be less emotional.
This could be neatly summarized in one sentence: Quit being greedy sonnuvabitches and stop comparing yourself to others.
