I am 100% clear-eyed about the fact that Syria is a scumbab-on-scumbag conflict. Nevertheless, I think getting rid of Assad is a good thing. Both Russia and Iran have majorly had their balls cut off in the region- not just as a one-time strike- but I mean evicting them Syria and their influence right next to Israel. It even impacts Iraq bigtime. Iraq has become a colony of Iran too but now has thousands of sunni Syrians refugees flooding into their country. Yeh, have fun with that. Iran is behind all the Hezbollah/Hamas deterioration and decades of evil. There is a theory out there that says that Iran did not necessarily create and order the Oct 7 attack on Israel and did not necessarily want it but that their proxy/Frankenstein Monsters got out of hand and Iran was empowering them more but able to control them less and things blew up. Probably something to that. In any case, this is a MAJOR loss for Russian and Iranian power right while they have other major problems. So I am siding with the Scumbags behind door number 2 Alex. I don't mind reshuffling the deck at all even though we might get snake eyes again. As I say rather frequently, the role of Saudi Arabia in all of this is underdiscussed but will be key. Much of the problem with the Palestinians is that they are sunni but have either been represented by their own corrupted ones (think Yassar Arafart) or by shia (think Hamas or Hez). The Saudis are sunni and gaza and the west bank are a mess again. There is an opportunity for them to intervene hopefully for the good since they allegedly want to pick up where they left off with the Abraham Accord. If they don't, then the Palestinians will side with the Sunni terrorists who now have power in Syria. So there is some change there that needs to be managed a bit backchannel. In the end it will still be all fucked up because...well...this is the mideast. But I would get Iran and Russia the hell out of there and see what's what.
There is that because as I said: "this is the middle east." The problem is that the crazies that are turbocharged by Russia and Iran get too do more with their crazy shit. Just sayin' I prefer a crazy that does not have Russia and Iran backing them up. Without doubt, at some point, history will show that Israel was sharing intelligence with the rebels. They gotta do what they gotta do even though it is not pretty. Such is reality for them. They also prefer a crazy that does not have Russia and Iran backing him up.
It's all euphoria now, does not change the fact that ,, The leader " of the rebels (one of the main groups) is a pro ISIS (?) dog with $10 Mil bounty on his head (bounty from the west) Israel/US hit 70~ targets in Syria, prob to neutralise more advanced weapons, so that the new gov wouldn't get bad ideas.
The US war mongers wanted Saddam out, then, Khadaffi and Bashar Al-Assad. They failed the first time. Now, they managed to put Al Queda/ISIS back into power. Turkey backs these Islamic radicals. They also, want to exterminate the Kurds who are fighting only for their rights. It turns out Bashar Al-Assad had negotiations with the rebels and agreed to step down. Russia and Iran were not part of the negotiations. They only knew when there was already an agreement. That is why Russia and Iran did not intervene at the end of it. Remember Turkey wanted to send its army into Lebanon to fight the Israelis? Now, Turkey has full control of the Islamic radicals and can fully arm them on top of it. Israel should be very afraid. Things just got 100 times worst for Israel. Not only do they have to worry about Hezbollah, Houthis, Hamas, Iran but, now Syria with Al Qaeda coming back, they just poured gasoline on the fire. Thousands upon thousands of Islamic radical fighters have also, been let out of jails.
Meh. It’s about making our enemies spend resources. We have learned a lot of lessons from 9/11. First being don’t let jihadi types go un watched. Next being you can’t kill an idea but you can disrupt the environment in which it flourishes. Knocking out Assad by weakening Russia, Hezbollah and Iran is a win. And, despite what Trump says, we do need to get involved to try to end the Russian port in Syria that is its base of operations in the Mediterranean. There is an ebb and a flow to this stuff and right now the flow is with us. That Russian port is a priority right now. The Russians are great at finding opportunities in chaos and we should be no different.
