Trump woke up all conservatives to what liberals were doing to our magnificent country.

We are only coming to bring common sense into mainstream consciousness. We will succeed.

You do realize that the Democrats held governor seats basically until 2002 in most southern states right? Democrats were the people pushing against civil rights in 1968 in the south. We are seeing it again today with Democrat-controlled states.

It's hard to choke down these truths because "racist republican" has better alliterative qualities. The "racist Republicans" in southern states who voted Nixon in also voted for Democrat senators in large numbers.

There's virtually no historical evidence the parties 'switched' at some point. As it turns out during the civil rights movement Democrats held many of the critical senatorial and governor seats. It's a massive stain on the Democrat party which is why the DNC has been perpetuating this myth for as long as I can personally remember. 1994 was the first time Republicans enjoyed a majority in southern states. Remember that next time you spout off some non-sense about the backwater racist hillbillies.

A 3 day old half eaten ham sandwich would've beaten both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders handily. Probably would've won the popular vote too. Who doesn't love ham sandwiches?

    Southern strategy

In American politics, the Southern strategy was a Republican Party electoral strategy to increase political support among white voters in the South by appealing to racism against African Americans.[1][2][3] As the civil rights movement and dismantling of Jim Crow laws in the 1950s and 1960s visibly deepened existing racial tensions in much of the Southern United States, Republican politicians such as presidential candidate Richard Nixon and Senator Barry Goldwater developed strategies that successfully contributed to the political realignment of many white, conservative voters in the South who had traditionally supported the Democratic Party rather than the Republican Party. It also helped to push the Republican Party much more to the right.[4]
