And, like I said, the typical British response would be "don't be a wally, take a brolly". Did businesses stop trading ? NO ! Did people not go to work ? NO ! Other than flow-rate changes, did planes cease landing at major airports ? NO ! Did ships stop docking at major ports ? NO ! Did the Prime Minister call a COBRA crisis meeting with senior ministers ? NO ! Business as normal for the UK with the exceptions of the tubes and trains that ceased working. But the British trait that is "flying in the face adversity" ensured that people did their upmost to get to wherever they would normally be (sure it took them a little longer to get there, but hey, it would be the same on a day where tube drivers were on strike). As I said ... live in Europe or visit a few times before making silly comments about weather "spooking the markets" !
I never said it would spook me But as we all know those silly news regularly causes unpredictable market reactions. Couple it with the month's high, and the fed about to release banks report and it could cause a bomb to go off... Or not. Hence why I got out today until I see where it ACTUALLY goes.
Indeed, but if you actually monitored the regional UK news, you would see that 90% of the content in recent weeks has been dedicated to banging on about the damn Brexit , and even today, sure, maybe a couple of minutes on the heavy rain slowing down transport a bit, but all the UK journalists are still milking the brexit, brexit, brexit news-piece like they have been ever since the vote was first announced ! If you ask any real UK people they'll likely tell you they'll be glad to see the back of this vote, not least so they can get some proper balanced news coverage back and not have to hear journalists scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to quote yet another person's opinion on it ! That is probably the wisest move. Stay out of it, only muppets would try to trade it !
One more thing just came to mind to but put this weather thing to bed. If you didn't follow the recent coverage of the Queen's 95th birthday on TV, you would have missed a prime example of the British people's nonchalance towards the rain. The entire Royal Family walked half a mile down the road infront of Buckingham Palace to greet, talk to and shake hands with the crowds. They were armed with nothing more than an umbrella in one hand to stave off the intermittent bursts of rain that London was experiencing that morning. Whether you're the Queen or a school janitor, rain is a fact of life in the UK, people live with it and don't let it get in their way. (The same goes for most Northern Europeans who are subjected to similar climates).
