Pretty sure I remember reading he sent over 100,000 terminals to Ukraine.
Soooo... 1.3% or less went down. >>>1.3%.

And that $2500/terminal number sounds suspect too.
I wouldn't take this article at face value without doing further dd.

    ???
    100K terminals X $2500/month = 1/4 of a billion dollars... ($250,000,000)... per month!
    Uh-uh...
    No friggin' way.

    edit:

You know how the cable companies and fiber companies give you a free digital modem for Internet service. They are very happy to do this because the real money is in the monthly subscription fees.

The same concept applies to Starlink -- except he tries to charge for terminals. But Musk is happy to give them for free since the real money is in the monthly subscription fees.

The 1300 terminals referred to in the article were those provided to the Ukraine military. Musk was demanding the U.S. government pay the huge amount of money for the service (far above the typical monthly fee) for these 1300 terminals. When the U.S. government told him "No" because he was ripping them off --- Musk then cut off service to these 1300 terminals.

To Ukraine this outlined that Musk is a completely unreliable partner and they are now seeking alternatives to Starlink.

Elon Musk says Twitter banning Donald Trump was a 'grave mistake.' The tech billionaire is 'fine' with Trump not tweeting, too.

    • Elon Musk said Twitter's ban of Donald Trump was a mistake.
    • The move "undermined public trust in Twitter for half of America," according to the billionaire.
    • Trump was reinstated by Musk last week and has yet to use the platform.
Twitter's decision to ban former US President Donald Trump was a "grave mistake," according to Elon Musk.

The new Twitter owner and CEO on Friday explained in a reply on the platform that the reinstatement of Trump's account last week was, in his mind, a matter of justice more than an attempt to get Trump back as a user. Since Trump has been reinstated on Twitter, he has yet to use the platform that previously served as his go-to and near constant public communication tool.

"I'm fine with Trump not tweeting," Musk wrote on Friday. "The important thing is that Twitter correct a grave mistake in banning his account, despite no violation of the law or terms of service."

The US Congress formed a special committee to determine the exact type and number of laws Trump violated with his actions on Jan. 6, 2020, the day he sought to disrupt the transition of presidential power to current President Joe Biden. The committee proposed in court last month that Trump broke the law by obstructing an official proceeding of Congress and conspiracy to defraud the American people, among other allegations.

Since Musk took over Twitter at the end of October, he has slashed headcount and made changes to operations, including content moderation. Even before acquiring Twitter, Musk was open in his dislike of the company's active form of content and user moderation, saying it went against free speech principles, while maligning it for allowing "spam bots." Now, Musk says any speech that does not violate the law should be allowed on Twitter.

As for kicking Trump off the platform in 2020, Musk claims the move had a bad effect on Twitter.

"Deplatforming a sitting President undermined public trust in Twitter for half of America," Musk wrote.

In another reply, he added: "Twitter as a platform must be fair to all."

Musk is making claims today that he will now be paying for Ukraine's access to Starlink indefinitely -- after trying the jack the U.S. government for an absurd amount of money for monthly fees for Ukraine -- and then taking a lot of public flak for cutting off the Ukraine government Starlink terminals.

Let's dig a little deeper into the history and the details -- since this is not the first item Musk has been caught lying about.

SpaceX claims it subsidizes Ukraine to the tune of $20 million per month.

As a start, SpaceX was paid for at least some of the Starlink systems sent to Ukraine and the US government handled the logistics of actually getting the systems to Ukraine. Of course, that didn't stop Musk or SpaceX from claiming that they did this out of the goodness of their hearts and with 0 help from the US government. And it's not just the US which has bought terminals either. European countries have done the same.

And while we don't know what if any financial arrangements exist between Musk and the US government for ongoing Starlink access, he's lying about how much this is costing SpaceX. Let's tackle that "$20m/month, over $400m/year."

$20m/month is only $240m over the course of a year. That leaves a $160m which isn't explained.

But even that $20m/month figure is insane. That claim came out in October when Musk put forward his "peace" plan. From Starlink's own website, the cost to use Starlink is $599 for the hardware and $110/month in service fees for someone in the US (it's cheaper in Ukraine, $75/month for service). In September, there were around 23k Starlinks in Ukraine. If SpaceX were out-of-pocket for all of that, the total cost for a year would be...$44.2m. 23k terminals at $600 per is $13.8m. 23k terminals at $110/month for 12 months is only $30.36m. To get to his $20m valuation, each terminal currently in Ukraine would need to cost SpaceX nearly $1k/month! How does that even remotely make sense when the cost of the first month (buying the terminal plus paying for service) is only $710?

And it should be noted in reality that these fees only cover the 1300 terminals owned by the Ukraine government -- not the 23K terminals. Musk already previously cut off these 1300 terminals while trying to jack the U.S. government for over $400 Million to pay for the service. Note that nearly all the 23K terminals in the Ukraine that are non-government are paid for privately.

So the actual cost to SpaceX to fund the entirety of Ukraine's internet bill plus provide the hardware would be about $45m -- assuming 23K terminals (the reality is that it is only 1300). You might notice that figure is only a little more than twice what he claims SpaceX is losing monthly to provide internet service to Ukraine.

    https://mashable.com/article/elon-musk-defends-qanon-shaman-jan-6

With Tesla's competition heating up, an impossible-to-meet Neuralink deadline, and tanking Twitter revenues, one would think that Elon Musk has his hands full. But, fresh off publicly demeaning a well-respected former employee and questioning the disability that the worker has, Musk has taken up a new project.

For the past day, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX has taken to Twitter to defend Jacob Chansley, better known as the QAnon Shaman. Chansely is one of the more recognizable figures from the storming of the Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021, where he and thousands of others attempted to overturn the presidential election results and declare Donald Trump the winner.

"Free Jacob Chansley," Musk tweeted on Friday about the right-wing conspiracy theorist who joined the pro-Trump mob in breaking into the Capitol building.
