Anyone who wants to enter the country can do so. They may get booted back across but they just re-enter the next day or week. And the number entering is so massive that the number being turned back for re-entry can and is a small fraction of that but still be a record number. It's a bullshit game. The dems are fully committed to open borders by and through their actions and speech but Kamala tries to gloss it over by making a statement to the country. Yeh, right. That would be like Jeffery Epstein speaking out against child trafficking and underage sex. What are you doing in the meantime? Don't even start down the road of trying to minimize that border situation with me. It is total collapse and chaos.
The argument above works both ways. Migrants are counted multiple times for both attempted entry and turn around. The whole thing is inflated. What is important is the turnaround number.
Is there any question that a record number of illegal immigrants are being apprehended at the border (without any increase in staffing for enforcement since January)? Is there any question that a record number of unaccompanied children in custody? Keep in mind that only a small fraction of people crossing the border illegally are caught. What is the probable number of illegal immigrants currently making into the country without being stopped?
Upscale Residents Protest as Biden Converts Scottsdale Hotel into ICE Detention Center https://ricochet.com/975316/upscale...s-scottsdale-hotel-into-ice-detention-center/ The precinct for Scottsdale’s Homewood Suites voted for Joe Biden, 51% to 47%. Today, this upscale Arizona neighborhood regrets its decision. Two hundred residents protested Saturday after ICE took over the recently closed hotel to house more than 1,200 illegal immigrants. No public input was requested, not even from the Scottsdale Police Department, which was notified of the decision a day before migrants were transferred. Government usually detains the undocumented in poorer neighborhoods where they’re more easily ignored by the media. But this zip code has nearly three times the state’s median income, making it harder to hide the ongoing border crisis. “Over the Memorial Day Weekend, we were notified about the hotel and the illegals that were moved in under the cover of darkness without any kind of consultation from the local community,” protestor Lisa Seger said. “My wife and I drove by last night and sure enough, they have armed guards and we have pictures taken by other homeowners unloading buses with people with backpacks into the facility,” said resident Geoff Gunsalus. “So we’re concerned that none of us have been put on notice. There was no due process.” Angry neighbors soon learned their city government has no legal authority to override ICE’s decision. The facility is closed to the public and local journalists were denied entry. Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich wants to get to the bottom of it. “The President is using Arizona as an experiment with his reckless border policies,” the elected Republican said. “I will continue to stand up for Arizonans and do everything I can to stop the Biden Administration’s attempt to abolish ICE. All of us will pay the price, not only with our tax dollars, but also with our national security, and the safety of our families.” He demanded DHS provide details about the process, if migrants are being screened for diseases and criminal records, and cost to the taxpayer. When the border is protected and the problem unseen, it’s easy to support lax enforcement and vague promises of “compassion.” Last fall, the Biden sticker on your Tesla earned approving nods from neighbors and you rest assured that you were on the side of the angels. Nine months later, you’re on a 108-degree sidewalk screaming “NIMBY!” and wondering why Democrats smirk as they drive by. Politics is funny that way.
So it’s not a small fraction, we capture approximately 2/3 of all attempted illegal entrants at non border crossing stations. Yes, unaccompanied minors were at record levels and the process is too slow for return. Currently we are off of our highs for border apprehensions and crossings. We actually have a very robust presence at the border however we are stressed there. The length of this surge and the complication of unaccompanied minors is wearing on resources. We may need to reinforce some aspects, that is true. What is not true is that record numbers are actually entering. Right now the system is holding. But this was the problem with Harris and how she handled the sound bites about the border. She was dismissive of it. That’s a real problem because border patrol is working really hard right now and doing a pretty good job for what they are dealing with. She needed to recognize that.
For the record, here are the title 42 and title 8 expulsion numbers: https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/cbp-enforcement-statistics/title-8-and-title-42-statistics Here are the apprehensions broken down to date: https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/cbp-enforcement-statistics
"So it’s not a small fraction, we capture approximately 2/3 of all attempted illegal entrants at non border crossing stations." CITATION? Especially since on other threads we have border control officials stating they captured at most 40% of people illegally crossing the border at the peak in the late 1960s and in recent years 20% at most. This is also confirmed by Princeton University sociologist Douglas Massey, co-director of the Mexican Migration Project, a collaboration among a few universities to track migration. Massey’s project uses a different methodology than other methods cited by the federal government. This measure is based on interviews with households in Mexico about their trips to the U.S. as well as interviews with Mexican migrants in the U.S. The probability of apprehension in any given year is the number of apprehensions in that year divided by the number of attempts observed in that year. https://mmp.opr.princeton.edu/results/008apprehension-en.aspx
El wrongo, muchacho. The best estimate we have is between 55% and 85% apprehension rate (or approximately 2/3). The disparity is between field apprehensions and those turning themselves in, depending if you want to look at the whole or just the field. Also, these are our best estimates. The source you cite is a household survey without any verifiable evidence. https://www.politifact.com/article/2019/jan/11/does-border-patrol-catch-90-percent-immigrants-cro/
Are you really going to believe the numbers pushed by federal political appointees rather whose job is to claim how safe the keep the border --- over studies who which actually tracked large numbers of illegal immigrants who were able to successfully cross the border and interviewed them?
