Obama inherited a border crisis, congress passed some big border funding package that like doubled the number of agents at the border and in certain areas we were allowed to go into Mexico for a while and “assist” Mexico in apprehensions. Biden allies and even some people close to Harris said they viewed her trip to Guatemala and Mexico as a “disaster,” as one put it. Harris definitely flubbed a lot of the optics and sound bytes on this trip. She needs to get this stuff together. In politics getting this stuff right garners public support and public support is currency in DC. Say what you want about Biden but when he was VP he did this sort of thing well for Obama. Harris has to get better at it. Now that isn’t to say her trip wasn’t a success in its own right. She definitely got the message out as a US official visiting Central America she unequivocally told the people not to come to America and told leaders directly and in public they are responsible for making their countries safer and better. Don’t underestimate that message. It’s something people can grab on to and with the proper support can make a difference.

"the message she got out" is that the borders are wide, wide, wide open and that she was going to mouth some words there that meant absolutely frigging nothing to all the coyotes and illegals thinking of coming. Meanwhile guys in Guatamala are calling their illegal cousins in Tea Neck, New Jersey who just got good jobs with a landscaping company because the dems have paid Americans to not take jobs. The border is not totally collapsed but migrants are certainly at record levels. We are also returning people at record levels. It’s a lot of stress at the border right now but we are holding right now. You complained when Obama was the president too and crossings were relatively low and deportations high and you cheered Trump when crossings were relatively high and deportations slowed. Right now we are using emergency authority due to Covid to turn the migrants right around. Our turnaround rate is very high and we actually making some progress on the unaccompanied hold issues too. However, no matter how you spin going down there and telling people not to come is the right thing to do. Where Harris dropped the ball was with issues related to the actual border. She needs to show respect for the work going on down there. Right now it’s a very stressed situation and we are lucky it’s holding up.
