Actually I was reminded this morning that I am just a P&R bottom-dweller who is not necessarily welcome in the Prop Trading forum due principally to the harshness of one of my posts in this thread. No mention was made of the slander of Maverick74 just a not-so-subtle threat regarding my demeanor. I clearly intended some offense towards the OP but if I've offended others I apologize for that. Guess I just hate to see a good man run down by a piker. Fwiw I worked at a certain firm on Dearborn Avenue so I suppose that I'm as qualified as anyone to post here in a thread about another Chicago firm. The implication that Mav is a paid shill is ludicrous and I also think this thread belongs in chit-chat.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NcoDV0dhWPA Seriously gmst : you should start to learn humility. Humility is actually very good for traders. Oh and some diplomacy also would definitively help. It is not because you are not good enough to succeed in the combine and after, that you need to insult people here. I do not know Maverick, and have never had any contacts with him. However, I would never condone personal attacks in the lowly ways you have done. You yourself wanted to leave when you started to be attacked. Regarding combine : many people believe they are good at trading ... well Patak is there. Can't do it : move on loser
Unfortunately, MOST of the people who join combines will turn out to be losers because you don't understand the maths behind the performance numbers. You have no idea what you have to achieve. I will do a followup post in sometime about the hidden maths behind those performance numbers. Maybe that will help.
I am really wasting my time on this thread. My intention was to just advise my ET friend when I started this. Why do I care if noobs want to go and get slaughtered at Patak!
gmst : more than 95% of people who start trading give up. Trading is not easy. Yourself : IF you had to back with for instance your life savings a trader, would you want to pick the creme or the "kind of ok" ? The advice of trying Patak before losing 5k is an excellent one. I wish this Patak thing was there when I started. Patak is a reality check : if you can't make it, yes you need to keep working on your trading. Also, you are not that good at math. Sorry to break the news. And you certainly might want to improve your trading : one doesn't need to start the day trading 5 contracts. One can start with one, build a cushion and take it from there. Here again, an example of an over-educated idiot faced with the realities of trading. If you can't make it, move on. Na, keep trading: we need idiots to feed the market
This is all the math you need to know. Not much more to it, really. And averaging 3 ES points per day is very much achievable. Why would they hire someone with less than stellar performance who is in drawdown? Those are free to trade and lose their own money.
I am wondering : if Maverick knows a lot of traders and trading people in Chicago, could these people give him inside information? Seriously this thread is very very vicious. Why?
What if Maverick is actually genuinely helpful and knows a thing or two after being in this business for so long? Is that so hard to believe? There are actually good people in this world. And I agree with previous posters. This thread is sickening and Maverick should have been left out of it in the first place, if it was only about numbers. There is a saying, "If you come at the king, you better not miss." I just received a mail from Patak and they have updated their trading plan to make sure there is no further confusion regarding that last point. As always, it is better to go straight to the source when in doubt, instead of discussing things on a forum. The plan is attached. And yes, I work with Patak and am on payroll for writing this. That was a joke in case anyone did not get it.
Just read through all this feed. I am new here and this is definitely not what I expected from a trading forum. I thought this was for people who trade...and want to talk about trading. That is not what I am seeing. But, getting back to trading...I am in the topstep combine. I think their expectations are completely reasonable. I was in their chat today when their new trader was getting interviewed and they said he was able to choose his own combine objective. Definitely something i am going to do for the future.
