The opening twenty minutes were very hard to sit through and I would have turned off if I hadn't read the book and was interested in the subject. Jerky handheld camera, talking to the camera like House of Cards, unsympathetic portrayal of Michael Burry by Christain Bale and no obvious plot line. Did pick up though and they stopped the jerky camera.
You read the book and still needed a plot line? By the way it is 4 stories and only 2 of them interweaving, so there is no straight plot line in the traditional sense. What was so unsympathetic about MB's portrayal? He visited the set several times by the way, probably would have objected if he didn't like it. The breaking down the 4th wall (talking to the camera for you) was to explain complicated matters. Since it wasn't an ordinary film but more of a docudrama, it is more or less expected... I generally hate jerky cameras, but didn't bother me in this film... I am downloading it now, but damn, there are other 16K people doing it and it is slow...
I went and saw it the other night, really liked it. Only a couple theaters around here are showing it though
Nicely done & enjoyed it.. more than i can say about most finance movies... quality cast that did a decent job putting it into laymans terms, particularly the CDO`s. Reminds me of when I stood up at my Easter dinner table in `07 with friends and family & explained to them the staggering sums of ARMs resetting in `08, `09, `10.. That we will be witnessing a foreclosure on every corner in America... FDIC only insured up to 100K per institution & to protect yourselves... Banks & the People are going to be devastated & that Gov`ts do not & will not bail the taxpayer out... My anticipation was that both will fail. Combining this movie with "The Inside Job" provides that average guy with a pretty clear picture of the entire kit n kaboodle on the greatest heist ever orchestrated.
I like how they believed they where right for 2 years and it was so damn rigged it kept going against them until reality kicked in then ouch!! Millions losing there homes and Millions there jobs, just nasty, didn't see any of this in the UK, knocked 10% off our house prices and just stalled the market still, 25% deposit requirement = no 1 moving!
