  1. JUST based on spread alone, the YM wins

    10 YM ticks = 4 ES ticks

so, if u are scalping - YM much better

second of all, i have very precise gap methodology, but even discounting all that - YM is more likely to fill a gap than ES

third, ES is literally infected with frenetic, hypercaffeinated arcade scalpers. you can see it in the way it moves. that chops it up for scalping.

fourth, ES almost always LEADS YM not the other way around. so if u watch ES but trade YM, you get a headsup

but first and foremost (for scalping) spread is immensely important. the superior YM spread allows for more precise stop placement, target placement, and better entries and exits.

    simply superior.

i love the fact that everybody prefers ES. it's the "it contract"

i don't want to follow the crowd.

  2. "But are you talking about actual statistical tests or simple bookkeeping comparisons"

actual statistical tests. in some cases, n= 500 to 1000 for some setups i have tested

the fact that so many people just automatically trade ES vs YM without first researching which works better for their setups (actually researching, not based on "feel", anecdotes, or a tiny sample size) is (and i am not referring to you here) a great example of why most traders fail. that's just basic imo

and most people never actually TEST their setups on several different futures contracts to see which contract works best

  3. Since we're talking indicies here fellas, I love the NQ for all the reasons that you love the YM whistler.

In terms of the Best TA Book Ever Published?

If you're into reading chart patterns, this one is a gem:

Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns (Wiley Trading) (Hardcover)
    by Thomas N. Bulkowski

It gives you setup, pattern and the statistics on the success of the pattern, all in one book.

He also goes into event patterns (earnings reports, stock up/down grades, sales, etc).

The book is sold out of Amazon, but I'm sure you can find it plenty of other places.

    Regards,

    JJ
