This, 1000%! Without the insurance part, though. So maybe 995%

Drives me nuts how many people in Florida get a gun and when you ask them how often they train, or anything about their training, then shrug and have no idea. I've gone to the range so many times and watched people warily as they attempt to handle their firearm and I'm cringing. Some ranges I don't even bring my son to because the RSO doesn't have tight control over the environment and the idiots with their firearms are being overtly unsafe with their handling.

  3. Come to think of it, I once visited a gun range in Collier County, FL. The employees there can get busy, making it tougher to ensure people on the range are minimally competent? They allowed me to fire a gun, a total newbie, without any tough questions. I probably “Swept” multiple people without realizing that was a thing. What do you believe it would take to make gun ranges safer and by extension some of the gun owners that frequent them?

Have to have about 1 RSO per 3 customers. Maybe 4. Any less than that and it can get difficult to manage safely. Ranges in some states (Florida, for example) aren't regulated as well. There is a range I go to around my house that is really Wild West. I go there on weekdays (if I've taken a day off) and there's almost no one there. They have 1 RSO, and 1 RSO on weekends as well, when its crazy. I go there because during the week, I can get away with doing things a normal regulated range wouldn't allow you to do - but I know what the hell I'm doing. If its a weekend, I go to another range that is absolutely locked up tight with competent RSOs. And I'd never bring my son anywhere other than the highly regulated range.

Holding people responsible criminally might be to far but if we are going to allow people to have guns they need to be responsible for them.Letting anybody buy a gun legally and not be responsible for them is why so many criminals get them. When I was around 7 someone broke in our house and stole 7 of my dads guns.He didn't have a safe just kept them in their boxes on a shelf in the closet. They were insured so no big deal to him.If he knew he would have faced tougher consequences by being being liable for any crimes those guns were involved he wouldn't have been so careless. He did get a gun safe after though.I think its more than likely some of his guns were used in future crimes.
