Interesting question - a quick comment, the term Commodity Trading Advisor carries specific legal and regulatory mandates and exposure. Unless someone is managing anothers money, they're not going to want to assume that title with all of its implications and complications. So even if someone is running a legit "advisory/education" service, they'd probably use a disclaimer that they're not a CTA or otherwise "registered" advisor and their service would be couched as "educational" for legal/regulatory/liability reasons. Frankly couldn't care less about Trader Vic here, except that all the mongering and slinging done by ETers has cost Baron some revenue. And since we have this site because Baron is able to fund it through revenue from sponsors, that's a shame. Ole Trader Vic would have undoubtedly hung himself and shown (all by himself) that his "calls" were uninteresting to useless over a week or two of them, if he'd been given the opportunity to post them (even if someone else took the initiative to summarize the results of those calls at the end of the day) instead of the barrage of slams and epithets (no doubt deserved but we're already over 30 pages of them and day 3 isn't even over yet). Point being that had his self-destruction been allowed to proceed in a more orderly manner that still exposed him but without the cannibalistic feeding frenzy that it's been, Baron could have at least milked him for some period of sponsor revenue to help fund this site that we all appreciate having access to. Operative moral - don't bite the hand that feeds you. Definitely not suggesting that charlatans and scammeisters be allowed to get away with it, just that it might be helpful to Baron in the future to consider how that could still be accomplished without harming the guy who provides us with this site. Consider what would have hurt Trader Vic more - to get carpet bombed like he has while still having a chance (now for free) to get some visibility (yeah, there will still be someone who checks him out in spite of the barrage) or to have let him keep shelling out bucks to Baron, post his calls, had them calmly and matter of factly summarized over time to show a consistent losing record, and let him self-destruct. FWIW, the second option seems like it would have hurt more while still accomplishing the aim of warning people away from him. OK, enough of that crap - back to the cannabalism
ArchAngel, Oh ok, I see, thank you for the education and clarification, the disclaimer *not advisor* then indeed makes more sense to me now. plumlazy But enough of that crap - back to the cannibalism
It was a little joke (very little perhaps). But if he was Trader Vic instead of TraderBrad, he should be good for a Mai Tai at least.
db thanks for the support I really do appreciate it You think that TraderBAD would see this but his arrogance is just amazing.
In defense of TraderBrad (never thought I'd say those words), his calls on 4/19 and 4/21 could have been considered winners, if you bought the low end of the range he gave. Now before you all go crazy, and start calling me names too, hear me out on this one. Let me play Devil's (pun intended) Advocate: His call for 4/19 was to buy ES 31-33. If you were fortunate enough to buy the low number (31), the three point stop would not have been hit, as the LOD was 28.25 (close one). If you bought the higher number, you would've been stopped out. The 4/19 close was 33.25, so you "could have" netted 2.25 points on a position trade with an exit at the close. The same for applies for his 4/21 call to buy ES 15-18. If you went long at the lower number, you were not stopped out, and ended the day plus 7.25 points. Again, buying the higher number was a loser. Of course, the targets on these trades were never in danger of being reached, but that's another issue. As far as his movies go, I agree that they look totally bogus. But the only way to get access to the "Live Room" where these trades are supposedly posted is to pony up the minimum $5k entry fee, and I can think of many other ways to waste five grand. I too was refused the "Free Trial" that is spoken of so often on the TB website, because of the "anonymous" email address that I've had for five years. Besides, it looks like that only gets you the Before the Bell Calls which he is posting here, not a seat in the room where the real money is made (tongue deeply in cheek). So here is my suggestion: let's get together, and sponsor a student through the TraderBrad Academy! And I don't mean just the basic course, I'm talking about the Works, the one-week One-on-One training session with TB himself, in the now infamous location "near Toronto". There are over 20,000 members here in ET, so if everyone kicks in a dollar, we've covered the tuition, the airfare, and maybe even a "therapeutic massage" at the end of a long day of training and trading. I would volunteer for the job, but am currently too busy trying to feed my family with my feeble attempts at trading the markets ( for real) each day. The lucky person could then post his/her experiences here, and help the rest of us by posting the trades they will learn how to make. Another thought: if we all start trading his calls (remember, use the low number), we could donate the proceeds from our winners to this effort, kind of a Paul Newman (Newmans Own) type-thing. Maybe we can negotiate a discount from TB, since this would be a great way to expose himself (not that way, fresh!) to many potential clients. I eagerly await what I'm sure will be many supportive replies.
Keeptradin', I hate to be the one to break it to you but there probably aren't more than 2000 active members here, if that many. Many have either moved on or blown out and many of the more than 20,000 are people who have posted under more than one name. Some members have more than 5 nicks that they use for posting. 23,000 members is far from being accurate - (active individuals) Best regards, plumlazy
