The Armed Citizen

  1. Lots of states allow open carry, but it is not widely known...even among law enforcement...so unless absolutely necessary I would not advise it. The cops can also arrest you for disturbing the peace, if citizens call them to complain. I have a concealed pistol license in Michigan and recently found out that Michigan does allow open carry also, but this was only after some legal disputes and finally clarification from the state attorney general.

Throughout the United States there has been tremendous growth in the number of people getting CCW permits and the majority of states now allow them. People are starting to realize that criminals are not detered by the laws if they want to use a gun. So instead of attempting to reduce crime by making the law abiding citizens become defenseless victims, the shift is now to allow some degree of self-defense. Places like New York and Chicago are the obvious exceptions.
