A foot basin is not a Muslim religious symbol. Muslims do not worship foot basins, they simply wash their feet in them. They are a practical accommodation to the needs of certain people who happen to be following their religious beliefs. Our society is full of similar accommodations to Christians, which is fine with me, and fine by the ACLU. Separation of church and state is carefully defined to exclude federal funding of prayer facilities, mosques or churches, religious advocacy in public facilities, etc. Those restrictions apply to the Islamic faith exactly as they do to the Christian faith. There is no slippery slope here. I find it ironic that some of you are so disrespectful of Muslims while simultaneously accusing them of disrespect for other religions. Perhaps you should not be so quick to abandon the moral high ground. Martin
I think the relevant question would be, what is the secular purpose of these foot baths? Clearly they are going to be used only for facilitation of muslim prayer. Try letting your dog take a sip out of them and see the reaction you get if you disagree. Personally, I think it is totally constitutional for the state to do that, but it is totally inconsistent with the ACLU's extremist campaign against Christianity.
No surprise that a fungal retentive type like you never washes his feet... I see dogs sniffing the shit of other dogs, they ain't too picky... Thanks for your opinion as a recognized Constitutional Law Scholar... Yall klanish crack me up...angry white males, angry fearful Christians who have a history of burning witches, inquisitions, killing American Indians, etc. ....all in the name of God, of course.
Do you have to be a Muslim to use the foot baths? I think if public money is used then everyone should be able to use them.
Liberals pulling the bigot card. Yeah I am a bigot because I do not want tax dollars spent on foot basins. You are an ass wipe. Spewing out bile towards white guys. You are sick. By the way zzz in your zeal to defend you missed AAAs point. Try rereading. I don't think hes concerned about the health of dogs you dope. Martin I was wondering if you would like to point out all the "accommodations" for Christians that the aclu is not trying to eliminate. You will probably say Christmas and Easter. but, I have seen those names being changed by schools and those are less accomodations to the religion than to the reality that everyone is gone visiting family. So I was wondering do restaurants not seel meat during fridays of lent? does the gov't not distribute birth control. do drug stores not distrubute condoms. Do friends not say "Oh my god every other line" .
just to be clear I am not advocating for those accommodations(above) , just pointing them out. More- do schools not teach sex ed, even though many conservative christians think abstinence should be the only thing taught. Does the govt ban abortions or even refrain from using tax dollars.
The obvious answer to schools is to get rid of public education. Then liberals can send their kids to learn about the Koran all day long or learn that 2+2=whatever they want so their self esteem isn't destroyed. And learn 2000 ways to have gay sex. And Conservatives can send their kids to Nazi indoctrination centers or learn that the world is flat and creationism is science and sex is evil. And I can send my kids to an old fashioned school where they taught the basics, taught it well, said the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag every morning, and didn't teach about heather has two mommies or how to sport a condom or that America is the source of all evil in the world today. There wouldn't be very many students there, probably one school in the whole country. But it would be a pretty good school. And everybody pays for their particular form of insanity.
That is a very interesting question. how long will it before a guy with pork on his feet wishes to clean them off. Not because he dislikes Muslims but to prove this is a religious symbol or religious icon or at the very least something religious. I have no problem with some basins if this part of a trade off for christmas scenes on public property.
