The ACD Method

  1. I wasn't talking about you.

    I was talking about people saying HFT killed trading. Trading systems get killed everyday. But trading as such never got killed. Only you and/or your system did.

    Right, I agree with you. As long as there is risk, there is opportunity.

  3. The nice thing about ACD is that it gives you a framework to quickly detect in a volatile instrument when it's on the move or not, and how to act if you're wrong. This is basically it.

    All profitable trading systems are based on the premise that a trend continues to trend. It's human behavior/or software behavior programmed by imitating profitable human behavior exploitation.

  4. I am not paying any data fees with SC because I am using IB for the live feed. There are limitations to IB, someone looked at them in detail and posted in another forum, but they are not of a degree that bothers me.

    I subscribe to Package 5 (because of Market Profile) so I do get free live Forex data and access to SC Historical Intraday and EOD data.

    For packages and supported data services, check these links;

    As to Excel, yes the spreadsheets are compatible with Excel. Indeed you can even use Excel directly, but SC issue a disclaimer that they do have concerns about possible unforeseen errors and recommend using the SC spreadsheet. Whether this is just to protect themselves (like brokers disclaimers about losing all your capital and more) I don't know.

    In any case the SC spreadsheet supports all the Excel functions I need, like IF, MATCH, INDEX, LOOKUP, TEXT, MIN, MAX, TIME, MROUND etc, as well as Array formulas so I have not come across something I can't do.

    You can see the full list here;

  6. Thanks, but if my understanding of the description is correct, what I came up with is more user friendly.

    Briefly, my daily levels are automatically calculated and plotted on the charts. This is pretty simple, using the native H/L for period study coupled with a spreadsheet study that extracts the A value from the daily volatility at the open, adds/subtracts from that and plots on the charts. I don't use a static A value like Fisher.

    For weekly, monthly etc values are automatically generated, but I copy and paste those to a separate area from where they are read/plotted automatically. This could be made 100% automated too with a simple IF and DATE, but that would mean spreadsheets with too many lines especially for quarterly and half yearly levels, so I prefer to keep things lean with a little copy and paste.

    The number and variety of native studies in SC is amazing, and the spreadsheet study opens up huge possibilities. If you ever get stuck with spreadsheet studies, there are power users on the support board who will help you out with formulas and other practical aspects.

    I just noticed Gold bounced off the monthly A down to the tick. Nice 70 handle pop. I have no position, took my eye off Gold. But just some more ACD in action for you guys. And a reminder...always watch your levels!

    Massive whipsaws. Down, now back up. I got a feeling it will finally break down hard even past your A down monthly within the next week.

    The whips saws are only seen from a close distance, when I step back and look at the levels, I see a metal this moving in waves between the monthly, weekly and QTR levels.

    Sounds like a "Zen-like" approach :)
