Also getting clocked are equity names with nat gas exposure. Most are down 20% to 30% in the last week or two. Ugly stuff.

Well full disclaimer, I have no idea what his intentions are so this is just me offering one man's opinion. Having said that, Mark is retired and lives in South Florida (Miami). He has had a long standing relationship with CQG for decades. I know he has traders that use their platform. I "suspect" that this is quid pro quo. They are probably giving his traders or clients a deal on the platform and in return he is helping them market the platform. He still owns MBF, an introducing broker, so he has a vested interest in providing value for existing clients and in return if his clients get a deal on the platform, I don't have an issue with that.

So I wouldn't say he is "wasting" his time. He is retired, re-married, enjoying the fun and sun in south beach but at the same time, he will never completely leave the markets. This is his way of having something to do. There is this idea on ET that I think is misguided that one has to actively trade the markets all the way into hospice care. At some point in your life when you don't need the money any longer and you also don't want to hang out at some cafe all day sipping ice tea and shouting at strangers walking by, you might want to choose to have a more casual relationship with the occupation you called home for 30 years. I suspect that is what he is doing.
