Many of the moves in silver and gold have taken place after hours/overnight, so nothing registered in my number lines. I had one decent silver trade, but that was despite the number lines. I'm going to have to sort this out. Maybe treat Globex like I treat FX and ignore settlement times.
My number line confirmed a week ago. I use London for all metals so ALL my metals are based on overnight moves, not US hours.
Just an FYI...the LME is based in London and metals while talked about in the US all the time are really foreign products and always have been. They really are not terribly liquid during US hours. They have always been a London market.
I was just looking up the LME hours. I see Gold and Silver are not traded on the LME, though they handle Platinum and Palladium. Bullion is apparently OTC at the LBMA. Interesting.
Yeah Gold and Silver are traded OTC but their domiciled market is London. All the big metal houses are in London and Switzerland. Side note, Marc Rich got his start in metals, not in oil, trading metals in Switzerland.
Found a piece that ICE now handles price setting for LBMA and their futures trading hours for gold and silver seem to be when Globex prices move too, and that's overnight New York as you say. Great stuff, appreciate the pointers.
