The law of round numbers is surprisingly effective in human behavior and the markets. Books could be written on it.
Robert, This is based on automated scoring. The scan looks at all 8000 stocks in the US market, but filters for tradability (price, volume level) before determining the NL scores, so the actual stock universe analyzed is 500-600 stocks.
Thank you sir. Are you using the Fisher standard two consecutive +/- 9's for confirmation? If yes, and if you don't mind, when did ...... say EBAY, KRE and ORCL confirm, and what is their current NL? Tell me yours and then I'll tell you mine.
Robert, The 30NLs are as follows: EBAY 17 KRE 11 ORCL 18 Regarding the confirmation levels, I have to admit that I was a bit sloppy when I posted the list a couple of days ago. I ran the scan against Fisher's/Mav's 9 point confirmation level, but with the way my scores are calibrated they fire at +14/-12 (don't ask me why the downside level is different - the machine tells me so and I dare not contradict, lol!). So there should have been fewer stocks showing up as confirmed. The 'correct' list is as follows: HA 33 FB 30 GE 28 LNKD 26 ADSK 22 PAYX 20 SYNA 19 HBAN 18 BDX 18 ORCL 18 GME 17 ESV 17 W 17 EBAY 17 BOFI 17 TXN 16 HES 16 LYB 16 KNDI 16 FOLD 16 VLO 15 MPC 15 ACM 14 GRMN 14 NOW 14 NFLX 14 PXD 14 AMZN 14 So KRE doesn't actually make the cut, but EBAY and ORCL certainly do. As far as when they confirmed, please take a look at the attached line chart (30NL starting 1/1 on top, 5NL starting 9/1 at the bottom): ORCL was above 14 end of Sep and mid-Oct and has reconfirmed on 11/4. EBAY confirmed on 11/4, whereas KRE reached 14 on 10/8, but did not confirm. Here's another example (the chart is not fully up to date, by the way), FB, which confirmed on 10/14 and then never looked back. It was EXCACTLY on the day when it retraced to the monthly A Up. Anything else I can do for you, Sir? It may take me a day or two to get to work on it, but I am happy to answer questions/compare notes. Also interested to see how my NLs stack up against yours - since mine are automated, they might be off, question is just by how much. And again, it's not so much about the absolute levels as the relative movements over time.
Well thanks for posting that info. This will have to be our last post on “Automated Number Lines” as that will definitely get us “thrown off the Island” if we pursue it. I keep all my NL’s by hand. I use the dumbed down HomeGamer method and it’s based on a 10 minute OR. So …. EBAY: NL is 14 and confirmed on 11/4 KRE: NL is 10 and confirmed on 9/25. (Also, you mentioned that on 10/8 you had a 14 .. I had a 20 on that date.) ORCL: NL is 15 and confirmed on 10/28. FB: NL is 13 (this is the only one a great distance from your 30) and it confirmed near yours. All good stuff sir. There are a whole lot of “Pukes” in the making.
Robert, Very interesting stuff, thank you. One factor that would account for at least part of the discrepancies is the OR that you are using - let me rerun the NLs with a 10 min OR and repost the results. Also, I've just sent you a PM, please take a look.
Robert, After today's close and with a 10 min OR my 30NLs are as follows: EBAY 13 KRE 8 ORCL 16 FB 21 What are your 30NLs after EOD today?
Hello Wappler, EBAY: 16 FB: 15 KRE: 10 ORCL: 16 (My FB ss was off a bit yesterday. It' correct now.) This is just a reminder for anyone who may be new at keeping number lines: Everyone will do it a little differently. True past tape readers like Mav see things a homegamer like me will never see … and they score accordingly. I’m more of a mechanically inclined scorer with a dab of discretion. My OR’s are 10 minutes and I prefer to have a complete (or very near complete) 10 minute bar above/below my A levels before I consider them confirmed.
CMG currently $33 off the MAd in a red market. I think they announced yesterday that they were re-opening those west coast stores that were shut down because of the eColi
