USAID gives money to overseas entities and governments and projects....now we asking why we giving money overseas when we need money here. There is money for here.....government creates money daily for other things. I agree USAID needs to be cut back significantly, but the idea that USAID needs to put American interests first...it is a foreign aid agency. I dont remember Americans saying no more aid overseas, just cut waste. Now everyone thinks USAID is entirely useless... maybe 50% is.
Another example of raking people through the muck for no reason. You saw a post and fully accepted it as true without any evidence. Why?
All of this discretionary spending revolves around administrative priorities. Trump may want to prioritize some USAID to development of Gaza or relocating Palestinians to Jordan. Whatever. There are plenty of people who will think that spending is stupid. I don’t expect spending to go down significantly under Trump. I do expect the workforce to shrink and the various agencies to be more concentrated and run out of the White House. Less competent and easier to control that way. Spending will become a cudgel used to bend dissenters. For example, education spending won’t go down under Trump even he reduces the agency footprint to one-tenth of what it was and distributes aid directly to regional federal school districts. Lower standards but more “deal making” room to implement the administration’s agenda. Nothing off of the table. It’s hard to tell what is actually going on in all of this chaos but after all of the dust settles I will bet dollars to donuts Congress has significantly less power over the government and the executive branch will have expanded beyond what anyone expected and there will be a technological infrastructure to fully control the government from the White House.
Perhaps the 4th Edition will include starving children across the globe, transplant patients dying horribly in rejection without essential drugs*, worse, terrorists licking their chops at the news of an FBI and CIA in disarray, a resurgence of infectious diseases like ebola, talk of ethnic cleansing in Gaza, and all social security and financial data in the hands of Elon's platoon of unauthorized hackers. *this is already something a charity I help is in full action stations over, like they didn't have enough problems.
rebuttal is always late. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/06/business/trump-politico-usaid-spending-conspiracy.html John Harris, Politico’s editor in chief, and Goli Sheikholeslami, its chief executive, said in a memo to employees on Wednesday that the news organization “has never been a beneficiary of government programs or subsidies — not one cent, ever, in 18 years.” The public discussion, the memo said, had “left some people with false understandings.” The White House also addressed the conspiracy theory on Wednesday, with its press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, saying that the DOGE team was “working on canceling those payments now.
@echopulse said earlier he is a sales guy and so things like being wrong are not going to affect his mindset on a topic, or his future caution. This is how sales guys are, they certainly don't own or drive the car but they are great at being in the moment.
