'through no fault of their own'...I hate statements like this. I sympathize with those people out of work because I was out of work in the past year and I know how hard it was to find a decent job, other than commission-only sales jobs (if you call that decent). But there's always some degree of personal responsibility, and always something that can be done if you work hard enough and are will to accept lower paying jobs

  2. now you watch out when people can't put food on the table. They will revert to their animal instincts, rape pillage and kill for survival.

This is what happens when the most industrialized nation gradually stops making stuff and declares this a great new economy and world order. The 20-30 percent of monied classes this is convenient as the stock market goes up or at least goes up and down, they can invest their monies somewhere. Those needing a job are f'd. I was unemployed for 3-years (five years ago) and after working for the last five years, I have maybe 9-10 more years to go. I am very lucky (or blessed) I have a job with benefits and a small business on the side. If I lost my job NOW, at 53 I would go on disability or try to coast it till I can get some SS...I would look for work only for the insurance and once it runs out I would try to make it somehow. It is possible but very HARD. Obama cannot create jobs only in his realm in the federal level. Private sector has betrayed America as much as the American public had betrayed itself. Go look in the mirror. I do not envy the young.

  5. Some people to poor to pay the docs to qualify for disability! How do u get disability? I know people with real limitations denied disability because they hire the doctors to prove it for them!

These are are people in their 50's with limitations.

It is not all that easy. I am paying private disability insurance(long and short term - part of the benefit package) and if they can me it is likely because of health related performance....I can always go for it. The Social Security Disability is very hard but still people who are 1-2 year away might get it. I had a co-worker who did get it albeit he could have pulled through and save a bit more....

  8. These restaurants probably looking for good looking youth with table waiting experience!

Any job that a person can make a living working, there is very likely to big competition for it.

The only jobs that can't get workers are commission-only sales jobs or jobs that one cannot even make a simple living doing.

What comes around goes around, especially at the CME, his callous and stupid statement WILL have Karmic consequences. It is not unheard of that people lose it all at the biggest casino in Chicago. in that case I hope he will follow his own advice to bus tables at Greasy Spoons Diner, competing with illegal Mexicans for $3/hour jobs...

  10. Machine are digging ditches in America! Human are not longer needed.

I was a 1099er (no bebefits), not lucky enough to be a 99er!

4-weeks of benefits is too short a time for the employment insurance his ex-employer paid. However, 99 weeks of full benefits was more than his ex-employer paid for, so the taxpayers are picking up the tab.

Too be fair and humane, give him all regular benefits - which is 30 weeks in most states, and allow him welfare & food-stamps beyond that.

In any case, I don't think there is any reason to look-down upon a 99er. It doesn't matter if it is his fault or not for losing his job or unable to find a new one.

It may be any reason a person cannot find work: Age, health, location, etc.

In this economy, employers expect perfect math with the right profile and work experience - not too much or too little, not too young or too old, smart enough to do the job but not too smart to find a better position .......
