I've been trading for about 6.5 years. I also have a day job so only trade the morning ES sessions. So I only logged about 6240 +/- hours(20 hours/week). At this point, I've reached some consistency and learned to fully manage my risk. So risk first, profits later. Its been a long journey and their is more learning in this crazy trading career. Hopefully one day I will be able to say "I've made it"
I found the same answer for PZ by reading three (count 'em) posts. this free's up a lot of time for doing lessor things.

I know people that can spend 20,000 hours at something and still be terrible. just because its in print doesn't mean its true. this guy is out to sell books for profit.
