TF this January

  1. Hello,

Just wondering why has the Rusell 2000 intraday been:

    A. So weak in volume.

    B. So Choppy

This January compared to other months has been so choppy, spiky and thin intraday, even on the best days.

    1. Why has that been?

    2. When will the good intraday trends return?

    Thanks

The Russell Emini TF futures volatility, chop, spiky price action and even key market participants changed dramatically after its last reconstitution (rebalances its index once each year in June). In comparison, prior years reconstitution didn't have similar like impact as this last one did in 2013.

Things went downhill further after the U.S. Government shutdown.

I don't expect the "good intraday trends" (as you called it) to return for awhile. Until then, you just need to be ready to trade when volatility does show up like what occurred on Thurs Jan 23rd and Fri Jan 24th. Yeah, there's a few others this month both those particular two trading days made it seem that there's hope the Emini TF futures may return back to having consistent good intraday trends.

Regardless, don't get married to the Emini TF futures. Simply, lots of other good looking gals out their when the Emini TF futures is frigid.
