Anyone know where I can find some great info on this game. I'd like to know what the odds are of a player having a pair given 5 different community cards, 4 different, 3 different, etc. In other words, if the community cards are 4 of spades, 5 of clubs, 7 of clubs, 2 of diamonds and king of hearts, what is the probability that any one player will have a pair? If instead of the king of hearts it was instead a 2 of clubs, that means there are 2 2's in the community (everyone has a pair). What then would be the probability of someone having a three of a kind?
I believe you are programmer. Write a simple Hold'em simulator. Start collectiing statistics. A programmer always knows how to get an answer to questions like these. Here are some sites for you though: http://www.bjornekull.com/ http://www.pokertop10.com/poker_software.html http://pokerportal.tripod.com/ http://www.cs.ualberta.ca/~games/poker/ nitro
I agree with nitro's good advice. You'll find a little more info here as well : http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17436&perpage=6&pagenumber=1 When you've finished all that, you can start taking into account betting and position.
Here's my favorite poker calculator: http://www.twodimes.net/poker/ I'll also take this opportunity to endorse <b>pokerstars</b>, as by far the best place to play on the net.
