Last year Volkswagen forced their managers to drive the ID4 ev. Those who refused the ID4 had to pay a monthly fine. Today Volkswagen is urging his managers to NOT use/buy/drive an ID4, but to drive an ICE car. The reason is that the sales go so hard that even with full production capacity there is a huge delay in deliveries. Over 100,000 orders are still not in production. The real test for Tesla to stay the biggest will start soon. Production of the competitors is growing explosively.

Here's why I used to agree with that assessment but gone 180 degrees since. Then, I used to complain rabidly against Musk and his lack of concern for quality issues that have plagued the cars, on the basis that all fans have now bought one and the every day car buyer now has to be convinced to buy a cool car with QA issues. With competition around the corner, I was concerned that the company needed to snap out of ego drive and instead aim to emulate an Apple like consumer obsession. As the world of ICE vehicles is waning and will disappear completely in Europe and parts of the US within 15 years, EV vs ICE will become an anomaly to 15 year olds who won't understand why it took so long to switch. Now, I believe that competition in the EV market is the best news for Tesla, because technically it is still years ahead from a hardware, software and charging standpoints. That is, when comparing one EV to another, Tesla will remain at the top -or near top- of the charts for another 10 years (beyond, I don't care). Sure, some cars on the highest and lowest ends may do better, but in the largest $40k-$140k segment Tesla is still unbeatable.
