  2. Meh, car looks like every other car on the road. So instead of a dashboard you get a large iPad to the right of the steering wheel? The "falcon doors" on that other car looks dumb.
If they throw in a monkey that guards the car, then maybe it's worth $35k.

I fell asleep at 11 pm, just checked out the promo now:

    1. One big glasstop, huge cost when a scratch/break on the windshield and the whole thing has to be changed. There is really no shade inside? That is going to get hot in some climates.

    2. The iPad control is dumb and off center, not particulary safe.

    3. Charging station usage is possible, but not free.

Probably only the first 30K buyers who signed up will get the 7.5K rebate and those will be the ones who already own a Tesla, so no rebate/cheap car for the masses...

Also, let's say they deliver 50K in 2018, that still means that the majority of the buyers giving them money now won't see a car until 3 years or more.

"It'll be the best damn $35K car that $60K can buy!"

  6. lol. If they actually will deliver the car for 50k - the stock will plummet.

  7. I don't think so, at least for now. They worth way too much right now, Apple wouldn't pay so much money.

  8. The only way to trade a stock like Tesla is to ignore the fundamentals (no way to justify the ratios) and trade price action when you like the activity. Why worry about what it is worth ... why not simply trade it when you feel you'll enjoy the ride and abandon it when you find a better vehicle to speculate in.

You're not buying a car. You are buying (or selling) a speculative opportunity.

A fool paid homage at the Temple of Portunus on April Fool's day.

At 9:59 EST, I opened this trade :
    BUY +1 1/3/-1/-3 CUSTOM TSLA 100 JUN 16/JUN 16/JUN 16/MAY 16 245/255/245/205 CALL/PUT/PUT/PUT @65.80 LMT

    Stock: 240.80
Margin requirement: $6485 (TD Ameritrade portfolio margin)
    Position Greeks:
    Delta: -7.315
    Gamma: 0.507
    Theta: 5.739
    Vega: 51.743
    Theta/Vega: 0.110913553524

AT 12:39 EST, I closed the trade : (by a limit order entered at 10:19 EST)
    SELL -1 1/3/-1/-3 CUSTOM TSLA 100 JUN 16/JUN 16/JUN 16/MAY 16 245/255/245/205 CALL/PUT/PUT/PUT @68.85 LMT

    Gross profit: $305
    Net profit: $285
    Net return on captial: 4.39%

It was a fairly risky long Vega bet in spite of the positive Gamma and Theta.
The fool had a hunch that the announcement of the cheaper Tesla might stir up some emotions and kicked up implied volatilities in the short term. And the Goddess Fortuna was kind to the fool on the Fool's day. Of course, the Goddess had been unkind to the fool in other similar bets.

My point is that what I learned from books sometimes works, but not often enough to make me wealthy. I shall most welcome comments from gurus and experts about the trade and luck in general.

Have they solved the battery problem yet ? Or is it a 70 mile range on a dark and stormy night ? Hybrids are still better imho.
