  1. The towers were filled with financial operations. I can't imagine how many were affected by the disaster. We're putting out some calls to try to find friends/traders/market makers we know who work down there.

The NYSE is only about 4 blocks away. I wonder if it will take a lot of time to get the specialists back at their posts. The main subway arteries run right under the towers, as well as the main rail line to-from NJ.

I suspect that Nasdaq may have to take over trading of listed securities, or at least the 3rd markets will step in. What a great and unfortunate argument for decentralization of NYSE, the home of world capitalism.

  2. I offer my sympathies to anyone involved directly in this tragedy. I hope all my fellow traders and board members here are safe and well, and I pray for all of us and for the United States of America.

I was just having my first trial day at www.daytraders.com's Trading Desk. What an introduction.

    They cover it fairly well.
Sign up for a trial and you can be in it in 10-15 mins. (read only).

I wish to express my sympathy to the people of the United States. I'm shocked.

I think the US will respond with a massive attack on Bin-Ladin and his group. Would not want to be in Afghanistan right now or the next few weeks. I hope it is not the first link in a world destabilizing chain of events.

I believe the WorldCo office is across Broadway on the other side the island.

My office 'was' in the World Trade Center. A lot of friends and colleagues escaped, and some did not. Truly a sad day.

I am fine, our office is near the south seaport, beautiful views and besides dust, smoke and debris everything is ok.

This is something I thought I will only see in movies, people running everywhere in panic, and when the two towers collapsed, it was stunning . . . something I would never believe, it really feels like a dream . . .

Trading will be halted for a few days and things must go on, I will think about what sectors to long and short later, as I have to as a professional. What is done is done, we will have to move on.

We will discuss that later, for now, blessing to everyone . . .

  8. Everyone who is able, please go and donate blood. There is little else most of us can do in the very short term.

i'd like to express my deepest sympathy and condolences to all involved in this barbaric terrorist attack, especially the victims relatives and their close and loved ones.

while this atrocious act is totally and fully condemnable, and those responsible have to be brought to justice, i'd also like to say that i hope that an understable urge to engage in retaliatory measures be guided by measure and common sense that will not lend itself to a general escalation that would ultimately benefit no one.
