Intrade offers the ability to bet both sides on every contract. Sometimes the spreads are quite wide, especially for less traded contracts. The contracts are valued between 0 - 100 based on the probability the market assigns to the event's likely outcome. There are no margins so no need to worry about counterparty risk. Once a contract's outcome has been determined (based on fine print for each contract) Intrade automatically settles it at either 0 or 100 and charges a fee per contract if you settle in the money.
I wrote about Intrade a few months back. http://www.tradingmarkets.com/.site/options/how_to/articles/-77425.cfm
