  1. That or I just waded into a thread where I'm about to be treated like a heroine addict...lol

You are absolutely correct (really this time). That is why I was so shocked by the stupidity in your original post. In case you missed it, YOU are the one that likened coffee drinkers to drug addicts. Then referred to anyone who doesn't think of caffeine in the same way as illegal drugs as a hypocrite. I am glad my over the top post helped you to see the difference.

Jfc, just the fact that I had to explain. And here I thought /facepalm was universal internet speak. Maybe I should have posted that picture of Picard....

  3. I never said or implied that. You are a bold-faced blatant liar.
Caffeine is a drug. If you do this drug routinely you are likely addicted. Therefore you would, in fact, be a drug addict.
Again, I never said that. The obvious point is that the legality of the drug addiction doesn't matter: an addict is an addict.

Listen, coming to the realization that you are a drug addict isn't easy. Try rejecting this denial, come clean and abandon all addictive drugs, whether legal or illegal; you'll suffer with addiction withdrawal in the short term but you'll be finally free in the long run.

  4. Rosy is mostly correct. Caffeine is a drug and is widely used and abused. Same goes for nicotine. Now you can be a frequent user of these drugs and not suffer all too much if you stop abruptly. This is due by in large to the wide variance in individual tolerance, just like alcohol or weed. I personally know people who have experienced a fairly severe withdrawal when they stop using caffeine. Severe headaches, stomach cramps, heart palpitations, some mild confusion and anxiety.

Calling people hypocrites for holding two things to a different standard implies that you believe they are equal.

No big deal though. I am sure you understand English much better than I understand your first language.

I too have to agree here with RosyScenario and CaptainObvious. And let me say your comparison to heroin may be a little extreme and somewhat obfuscates any point you were trying to make. Anyway, I don't think RosyScenario is saying drug addicts are bad people. He's just saying you are likely one if you routinely take caffeine. I kicked that habit some years back and it wasn't pretty.

  7. Well that's yet another lie. And there was no need for it. I see I may have hit a sensitive nerve in forcing your realization that you are a drug addict. Anyway I'm done with you and this thread. Peace. Now go and get yourself some decaf, LOL.

This is the point I was trying to make:

Drug addiction is a serious, life destroying monster that has lasting consequences for millions of people around the world. It is obvious that everyone agrees there is no comparison between the horrors of drug addiction and coffee drinking. I think the responses to my original post illustrate that quite well. Using the term drug addict to describe coffee drinkers trivializes the true problems of drug addiction.

How laughable would it be for a coffee drinker to attend a drug support group, then stand in front of people with a real problem and say “I am an addict, it has been 3 weeks since my last cup of coffee.”? That is absolutely ridiculous. It would take a doucebag of epic proportions to do something like that. And would probably result in an ass beating of epic proportions from the group of people that were just made the butt of a joke…people actually suffering from drug addiction.

Withdrawal from caffeine might include headache, irritability and minor loss of concentration.

Withdrawal from drug addiction might include, oh I don’t know, running into an ER with a loaded gun demanding drugs. Yes, really. Check out this bodycam I saw a few weeks ago.

Hell, drug addiction these days often times doesn’t give a chance to go through withdrawal. Ever heard of Grey Death?

The troll who started this nonsense seems to have jumped to the conclusion that I am upset that he called me a drug addict because of caffeine. That is not the case at all. I am guessing he went straight to that because he was hoping to illicit that response with his post. That seems to have been the entire point of his trolling. Luckily, he is done with me now.

I watched someone go down the road of drug addiction. As I understand it, he started with pain pills and progressed from there. At some point he started on Meth, which may have actually saved his life because that is what landed him in prison. Watching him over several months was like watching someone melt from the inside out, in slow motion. It certainly opened my eyes to the dangers of addiction. Last I heard, about 2 years ago, he was sentenced to 25 years for manufacture of Meth (this about 10 years after his first prison stint and the 3rd or 4th offense). Life destroyed. That is drug addiction.

There is no doubt in my mind that anyone who has seen something like that would never use the same term to describe drug addiction and coffee drinking. I think just the term “coffee drinker” is more than adequate to describe the seriousness of caffeine addiction.

TL;DR: Using the term drug addict to describe coffee drinkers trivializes the true problems of drug addiction.

The boy probably had some sort of undiagnosed health problem that contributed to what happened. Either way, what happened is tragic and senseless and I hope his family will find peace.
