I cannot imagine ever asking such a question. Knowing Jack, should he ever receive a question as you have posted, his answer would, no doubt, include source data for the 'best' method of window location based on double-blind, placebo controlled, clinical trials from the leading research firms on the planet across several academic disciplines. This is where Jack and I differ. Were I asked such a question. My response would be ... "Do you really believe 'window location' on a monitor represents the best path to improved results?" HTH. - Spydertrader
Thanks for the answer, Spyder. Of course I don't believe that the layout represents the best path to improved results, and the question isn't distracting me from any of the real work. However, I do believe that, over a period of fifty years and in mentoring hundreds of individuals, Jack may have happened upon an optimal layout which could facilitate sweeping, at all levels. Perhaps in line with the optimal suggested ordering of columns on a log sheet. As an example, the standard reading convention (in Western countries) is to read horizontally from left to right. However, based on the way the eyes and brain work, it's actually far more efficient to read diagonally, from right to left or even vertically down the centre of a page. Now, I would never have discovered this on my own, but an expert speed-reader could have told me in a second. Maybe I'm splitting hairs. But in any endeavour, I feel most confident when I take an exhaustive approach to improving performance.
You probably notice that the WSJ is different from the NYT. Check out the IBD's uniquenssses as well. I put numbered red arrows on the illustrations of the displays to make the point of how to do M on various levels. You will find they are coincident with the citations of the experts you mentioned. You may also find out who did what when at some point. Refer to my charting master of 1957. There is no question of what is "right". It is not important to be "right" but it is important to begin to build the mind at some point. You may have passed over the sweeps chart that includes 9 different colored charts arranged in an order for usage. The display and the sweeps charts are consistent with one another and Spydertrader is precisely correct about what display and what office the illustrations came from. Spydertrader is an invincible resource 24/7. Spyder and I did discuss his rendition of what I would do and I am glad you gave you his very instructive direction for your benefit. I regard his comment fondly because it is so on the mark of how things go as we work together. Locating used equipment to run some obvious tests was easy to do as well. We didn't need to go through the process though for other reasons. Over the fifty years of iteratively refining things I was glad to see the copier invented and the PC invented. Software was a nice addition too. It was a pain in the tail to wait 20 years for something to show up that was obviously helpful. In trading to make money, the deal is to differentiate the mind. What this means is similar to driving a car with an automatic transmission by looking through the windshield and getting from pooint A to point B as competent person would. Boot camp was a process, just like the syllabus of 2007, for mind building. I sent you a brief email with a 3700 word attachment to make an ancillary point about the process. Day one of bootcamp started with a display and an array of support. That was available and you didn't understand that. There is a sweeps chart for reading the display appropriately. I've read your revisions. I posted a set of headers for using at various skill levels of logging. I had to incorporate two aspects: how the log serves MADA and how Displays work. As you see on the numbered arrows, the sweep of the display corresponds to the process of completing M of a row of MADA all in the context of the P, V relationship whose sequences are read vertically on the log from top to bottom. At some point you can fill in the log ahead of the market. I am not suggesting this nor do I want or need to see it. I am just saying that it is a way things work out as a consequence of the sequences of the levels of SCT. Boot camp was designed to allow using the display in real time to complete drills until each building block on each level was understood. That was skipped for the most part. I described in the email attachment what "understanding" means. Personal note: I have never swept at all levels in my life. Google: steer and focus. Boot camp was designed to deal with the coherence aspect of the mind as well. This meant that, measurably, a person would move from his initial position to a more parasympathetic place. The CW place on the spectrum is the incoherence of the sympathetic. The non intellectual characterisitcs are fear, anxiety and anger. An effort was made to affect understanding through successive drills in real time using the ES instrument. That wasn't possible.
Ok, while I need to get S/S working, I need to place both S/S and DOM back on the shelf for now and do purposeful work on Intermediate, during RTH, fully utilizing MADA, ensuring that I have sufficient rows on my log for the sequences to be clearly readable (in a vertical orientation) and furthermore, ensuring that I remain on level 2 at all times, and use YM at only the appropriate times.
This is a chart that was turned into a pdf a while back when the two displays Spydercommented on were being used by those mentioned from that office. The objective of the displays and the sweeping was to do the MADA cycle from the top down of the sweeps chart. Over the years I have suggested that people use different color bal point pens to go down the chart. Using a color for a given pace of the market. this is in real time and I, myself, on a more crude version (black and white in word) would glue the chart on a piece of masonite. It was about 2 feet tall. As the mentoring went along during regular trading hours it could be seen by each stripe of ball point color going down the chart that at various times the end point of the line scribed would always be stopping sooner or later (meaning a vertical distance from the top) at Continue. This is a MODE determination that leads to a Hold in the Action part of MADA. What was accomplished was doing a routine (MADA) on a sheet of paper and each cycle reaching a P, V relationship closure for that Observation (Monitoring) and processing the M to get the A then D and then A (closure is an aspect.) The lines thus drawn represented going through the sequence of a profit segment. At some point in the profit cycle you go further down the chart. The reason is, is that you need to steer (meaning look around on the display to a new place). At this sweep in time, you are going into more detail for a reason. the P, V relationship is functioning to tell you (meaning the market is telling you) that there is now more and important detail now available. More and important detail. You DO NOT go to any unecessary detail if it is not required is what the message of the sweeps chart is. I probably have about a 1,000 kinds of learning aids for people. They come from studying people when I am allowed to. The consequence of looking at these people is that I look into the process they are doing and I then give them another tool that will further open to them what there is there to see and understand. In my normal experience they are able to accept what is offered and as a consequence, to them the tool has a value for use at that time and in that way it is offered. I often hand out four color pens. They are tools to some kinds of people. We buy them by the hundreds frequently. If a person used the sweeps printout for each cycle of profit on a given trading level it would have groups of lines on it in different colors for each profit segment. Obviously, the sweeps chart is a thing that leads people to want to learn too. It also guides them along a MADA path each cycle. For boot camp the deal was to do drills and focus on neuro plasticity and differentiation and sneak coherence in if possible. I can tell you that I have seen many people get to coherence using the sweeps chart. Why? They could trust it as a consequence of accepting it. ET represents a massive longituduinal study of people who fail to learn to trade and learn failure repeatedly. Failure is not taking the market's offer. The theme of ET is people not forming a partnership with the market. This theme is the one depicted in Figure 7 The Circle on page 28 of the Adobe LLamingos publication entitled "My (Our) Heart Owner's Guidebook" (see attached).
Try to consider that the orientation of boot camp is to build the mind by goingfrom the coarse to the fine IN TERMS OF YOUR DIFFERENTIATING growth. The SCT levels simply show how adding mental memory differentiation makes trading more effective and efficient because the mind can process what is displayed and seen with the sneses. The sweeps chart was just a tool that was used at a given period for organizing to some extent the MADA routine. Doing MADA is a process. Doing boot camp was a process and it had drills and logs as part of it. Using the sweeps chart in boot camp was not done. Do NOT do it now either. To trade coherently there is a requirement that the Bohr Effect and the Fight or Flight Response be dealt with. It is not a good idea to be trading with 50% of the normal oxygen reaching the brain. I mentioned to you in an attachment to an email that their are 35 initial topics related to the consideration of these two things (BE and the FFR). I posted The Circle illustration to try to make the point that trading in a partnership with the markets involves TRUST (a non intellectual consideration). To go from incoherence of the CW mental and physical orientation, a person has to unilaterally, alone and by himself use the circle. 1. Listen, 2. Accept. If this can begin to happen, then a new thing comes into the picture for the person doing 1 and 2. TRUST appears as part of the non intellectual bodily and mental experience. This causes a personal systemmic shift in a person. You have had a caloric deficit for a quarter of a year. It is a result of the CW belief system and the consequences of getting that CW belief system set up in the past. You are telling yourself you forgot to eat. I am indicating to you that you did not move (this is a physical activity) to take care of business. Check out the meaning of Fight or Flight Response and check out the way the Bohr Effect works. You will see an association with terms like fear, anxiety and anger. As a contrast you can read a few of my recent posts. I suggested that if anyone in ET would put up a display containing four items excluding price, I would post a codable trading system for Collective 2 that would be a cash cow. No takers, just the incessant repeated posts of detractors. On the other hand, a computer without an SCT display on it would be hard to use to make money while annotating and logging, printing and debriefing doing a minor drill for added contracts in SCT learning. The display will only work if it is fed data, for example. Until midway through 2008 it took many feeds to do trading effectively in terms of the market's offer. How can any person beginning to trade trust anything? Only by the following: 1. listening to the market. 2. Accepting what the market says. Anyone unprepared to do this is going to learn failure. Say a person "listens" and accepts", what happens? What happens is the person moves by steps to a more coherent state. It has nothing to do with data, data feed, or the display. It has to do with being committd to listening and accepting what is heard. As acceptance occurs, trust appears in the space. Once trust is in the space, then Value may be associated with what was listened to. What the market says has great value to a person who listens, accepts and has trust (which appeared) in his partnership with the market. This person is moving toward coherence. LO et al (MIT) and assorted paper writers and researchers have not been in the same room with the measurement of what I am talking about. They do sweat, etc., instead. A fourier analysis of the cardiac waveform is what is required to differentiate the extent of the Bohr Effect and the Fight or Flight response. The people who were tested by the above referenced only observed incoherence and have never even apporached dealing with its opposite: coherence. Zen is coherence so is meditation and so is SCT trading. coherence comes after doing 1. and 2. and then learning with certainty that you know you know (an intellectually based logic process). It has been posted for years what it is like to trade under a regime of coherence and knowing that you know. I have spent a quarter of a year hoping to read such in this thread. Now we start to experience the coherence in alternative ways so when it does get to be part of the picture it can be recognized by the person and by the machine (a PC running software that has an USB pickup connected to the ear). Inform yourself and equip yourself with an emwave pc stress relief system. Go to WWW.heartmath dot com. They have games for you to play to find out what coherence feels like. A lot of people will find out that they simply cannot have trust appear during RTH. They are correct to believe that it cannot appear. A person does not need to look at price to trade like a cash cow. Looking at PA using price on a screen will usually lead to learning failure as has been proven statistically. Google traderzones. The two displays of coherence are called the "zone" and "the coherence ratio screen". Fourier analysis of the cardiac waveform as software converts the information to displays. Fear, anxiety and anger of CW trading is one one side and the SCT support, comfort and confidence is on the other side. Using a laptop is a convenient way to do the measurements.
Thanks for the email and the posts Jack. Wow, it's hard to believe that a quarter of a year has passed since thread inception. I won't use the sweeps chart. I'll continue purposefully with the ES and YM, and I've placed my order for the emWave Stress Relief System. I'm really intrigued about this. Thanks for your patience in the face of my unrelenting translation, invention and incoherence.
