Such interesting comparisons and parallels, all very compelling and thought-provoking. And all because the Right does not want the rich to lose their disproportionate tax cuts perpetrated under the Bush administration in the name of an economic "theory" that is demonstrably false and intellectually bankrupt. Quick, someone wave a flag.
Why do you say that? I'm a realist. Both the right and the left have contributed to this demise. Both sides are afraid to tell their constituents the truth. On the right, we can't fight enough wars to save us. And on the left, no amount of welfare or equality will save us. You can't stop what you got coming...friendo.
And why is that? It's because the poor are being picked clean and left for dead. Let me try to explain, or at least give my opinion. In times such as we're experiencing we need to think longer term. We have adopted a very short term economic view, especially in corporate America. During these changing times would it not make sense to view employee's as asset's to be developed, rather than costs to be cut? Sure, in the short term it makes no financial sense to keep dead weight, but longer term it makes perfect sense to develop exisiting employees with better and more appropriate skills rather than just cut them loose to fend for themselves. I also believe those at the upper strata of our economy have a moral obligation to do this. And if you don't buy that, just look at it as a common sense, long term investment in your company. The question is, have those at the very top become so far removed from the rest of society that they can no longer show any compassion, or even use common sense in their decision making? If we are, or ever were that great shining light on the hill, we need to set an example of humanity which is much more appealing than what we have become.

Typical apologist, enabler response. Drop outs are simply making a statement by not choosing to be one of the tens of millions of small business owners that create most of the jobs and puts the owner in the top 1-5%. Yes, we can't.
Ok, I think my euphemism went over your head. The poor in this example was the rest of the world, the countries that we have worked over. And the rich kid was the US.
In addition... HE'S FULL OF SHIT! The poor in America don't pay Federal Income tax... their access to public services is subsidized by upper income earners. The rich in America are not so "because they get tax breaks"... but rather, "IN SPITE OF BEING HOSED ON TAXES AT EVERY TURN"... Tax policy in America is NOT FAIR... IT'S DISCRIMINATORY... should not be allowed... After all, we're not legally allowed to discriminate against race, gender, religion, sexual preference... even WEIGHT! But it's OK to discriminate according to income... That the rich pay a disproportionately high percentage and the poor a disproportionately low percentage is UNCONSTITUTIONAL.. farkin' hypocrites!
Whoosh, went right by me. But I still think my post has some merit. Fixing the global mess, that's a wee bit more complicated and at the end of the day, you're right, we're about to get thumped.
Typical pollyannish, denier response. Do you really believe our problems are the failure of the American character? The millions kicked out of work in the past two years? The stagnation or diminution of buying power for the majority of the population for three decades? All of them mere character faults? If so, why should we trust your opinion, wouldn't your character probably be flawed as well?
