Tax Software Limits

Discussion in 'Taxes and Accounting' started by Arnie Guitar, Mar 4, 2024.

  1. I've been using H&R Block Tax software for years.
This past year I traded a lot.
So much so that it won't import my 1099 from TDA.
    The PDF was 200 pages.

"Smart Import Failed because there was not enough space to hold all the entries,
You will have to enter your data manually."

I've been on the phone with both Block and TDA.
    No luck.
Block tells me to enter it manually.
    That would take forever.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Is there another tax software with more space?
Do I have to go to a private tax preparer?

    Thank you.

Don't you just need to input net cost basis? Not every transaction.

  3. TurboTax can handle up to 10,000 stock transactions as opposed to 2,000 for H&R Block.

I use Turbo Tax Software as well to download my trades. Never had a problem downloading it to my tax return. Of course, I do not have 200 pages of trade data. Still, Turbo Tax might be able to handle it. Might be time to switch to Turbo Tax.

  5. I’m going to give TT a try.

    Thank you everyone.

  8. Thank you, I looked at that, but decided to go with TT.
I was done in no time, it was a breeze.
    Now let's hope it's clean.

Just enter the totals. Don't enter every transaction.

  10. If I find the ambition, I might give that a try.

    One side note on TT
    Being retired, I get a 1099R.
TT just had me take picture of it like you would depositing a check.
    I thought that was wild.
