This was news in Canada a long time ago; you left out the part of US dragging their feet on their part and are now suggesting Trump is somehow helpful in this regard. Like fuck he is. Trudeau tries too hard to appease the US on some matters; some of us know Trump's just an asshole that needs to be dealt with accordingly.
This is unquestionably correct, but lying on your tax returns isn't legal avoidance, its tax fraud. Its a felony and you can go to jail. Ask Leona Helmsley about that.
I have always wondered why this would be the only thing he doesn't lie about. It doesn't make sense to me. My guess is that he donates, and writes off his salary, to a charity he controls. Then the charity uses the money to get more portraits of himself painted. They are painted in a Taiwanese factory. The charity gives these beautiful portraits of Donald away to their donors as a thank you. The donors happen to be Trump's "for profit" Gulf Clubs. The clubs write of the donations and hang the portraits in their club houses. I'm not serious, but he has done similar and got caught. Does he ever say what charities his salary is donated to? I don't don't think so. As I'm sure you know, when investing in real estate, it is not only common, it is usual, to show net losses the first few years, especially if you are allowed to take accelerated depreciation on top of what are nearly always big renovation expenses and big expenses associated with the acquisition. That said, the IRS has a rule, not well enforced, that a legitimate business must eventually turn a profit, and they have guidelines such as a profit so many years out of so many. If one cheats on taxes and attracts the attention of the IRS, as Trump will do if he doesn't win and a new administration gets rid of Trump's hand picked IRS head, then these guidelines will rear up and bite Trump in the ass. Trump is continually buying new properties and these create losses for him, but what about the properties he's owned for more than a decade. Those are the ones that had better be showing an occasional profit, otherwise the IRS can view them as not legitimate businesses. Given Trump's veracity record, my guess is that he will be found, on close examination, by green eye-shaded tax examiners, to be a monumental tax cheat, lying about almost every number on his returns! This behavior he comes by legitimately: his Dad escaped going to prison during the Eisenhower era by less than the hair on his teeth. Any reasonable person should be asking, why would Trump's tax returns be the only thing he doesn't lie about? The answer to this question won't send him to jail, of course, but it will produce a very thorough audit at some point soon.
Trump is living in a house rent free, free meals, free transportation when he wants to go "home" to Florida or play golf... what does he need a salary for when he already came in with money and does not need to pay for anything...
Trump has donated his salary to federal agencies each quarter of his Presidency. He is not donating his salary to private charities. This article provides a list of agencies by quarter... Where Did President Trump Donate His Salary? A list of announced recipients of U.S. President Donald Trump’s donated paychecks since January 2017. https://www.snopes.com/news/2019/12/13/president-trump-salary-donation/
"Oh what a web we weave when we practice to deceive." Ha ha ha. To be clear, this list documents announcements — not receipts — of Trump’s donations. CNN reports that “federal regulations prohibit agencies from accepting donated funds unless Congress grants authority to the agency to accept the donation. Without congressional authorization, donated money is deposited into the general fund of the Department of Treasury.” We contacted the Department of Treasury to find out if documentation for any such deposits is publicly available and have yet to hear back. As I remarked earlier ..., "why would this be the only thing he doesn't lie about." I'll change my mind when the check arrives from Mexico.
While it may not be charity, there are certainly some excellent causes according to this article. Remind me what other President donated their salaries again?
So far as anyone knows, including Trump, he doesn't actually donate his salary! When the scam is finally exposed, the official response will be: "He did 'try' to, but, 'oh so sorry, we can't accept that.' " I'm certain he was informed of this all along -- not everyone in his administration is an idiot -- but he, of course, continued the charade anyway. His well-broadcast philosophy of life is, "It's not realty, but perception of reality that matters!" What I wish would happen is that Congress would call him on his bluff and approve the "donations". See above my response to gwb's post. And below my response to Tao's naive post. When are going to finally learn not to accept anything coming from the Trump White House as factual. EVERYTHING must be independently confirmed. P.S. -- Please let me know if I am not being nasty enough. I can tone this up some if necessary. I don't want to be accused of being soft on the hardened criminal that is our president.
ha ha ha. You must have been typing , as I was posting. A rare occurrence. See my post immediately above yours. To no one's surprise, Trump is not the generous philanthropist he would have you believe. Those are nice causes. And because Trump considers the Treasury's money his money* -- see your bilingual, personally signed letter you recently received from him for confirmation-- in his mind he is personally paying for everything wonderful that our government does. ____________________ * He also considers the Fed "his Fed", the Generals, "His Generals", etc.
