Tax effects of shorting a municipal bond closed ended fund

I was wondering if anyone knew what the tax effects of shorting a municipal bond closed ended fund would be.

For example, if I shorted NVC (assuming I could), I'm pretty sure I would have to pay the monthly distributions. However, does anyone know if the loss from the distributions would be able to applied to other taxable gains, or if it would be in a special class of losses that can only be applied to tax free gains?

    Thanks!
