The 90 day window is to finalize deals with most of the 75 countries now wanting a trade deal. Xi Jinping screwed this tariffs dispute badly. Fighting tariffs with more tariffs hurt China a great deal. The US being the world's largest consumer market, is a huge leverage China ignored at its peril. Selling the US $450 billion on goods vs US selling China $150 billion is a huge one sided surplus that China stands to lose if trade between the US and China grounds to a halt which seems very likely.
I believe that this was the plan all along---to get countries to the table and isolate the bad actor China for the world to see. Trump is ahead of everyone 2 or 3 steps.
Geraldo Rivera Flips, Heaps Praise On Trump For ‘Brilliant’ Move https://trendingpoliticsnews.com/ge...aps-praise-on-trump-for-brilliant-move-mstef/ Perennial cable news punching bag Geraldo Rivera flipped his script on President Donald Trump’s tariffs Wednesday night, praising him for “suckering China in” with a game of chicken that has stranded the country’s communist government out on an island while dozens of other nations saw their tariffs disappear overnight.
The damage is done, and China has not even cancelled their counter-tariffs. The market, the "wisdom of crowds", is not buying this sycophantic bullshit.
China is decoupled from the US at this point. I believe that this was the plan all along. Perhaps we'll recouple if they capitulate. If not, their economy will self destruct for ages.
Not really. I’m in Colombia and I’m absolutely bombarded with ads for Temu and other direct-from-China platforms thanks to all of this. The U.S. might be only around 4.5% of the global population, but it still hoovers up about 20% of the world’s goods and services. The remaining 95.5% are more than capable of absorbing a huge chunk of China’s output. “Decoupled” sounds tidy, but the global marketplace clearly hasn’t signed off on it. So China starts a bit of dumping and we live in interesting times thanks to the chaos guy.
