Americans will be hurt greatly by a trade war, but the Trump cult will never admit it. That cannot save face if they do. So, when a trade deal happens, Trump and cult will spin it as a fair deal, win-win for both countries. Seen this movie before. Trump said the last trade deal with Canada was a tremendous win for Americans. Now he reneges on it, throws your auto industry ( and others ) into disarray, and tanks stock markets. He forgot he even signed it. Probably dementia in play.
The Chinese are welcome to sell all that cheap shit they otherwise would've sold to HomeGoods and Dollar Tree to their own billion citizens. Crappy yard decor for every Chinese citizen! Mao mugs for all!
So what is your definition of full employment? Because according to standard economic figures -- the U.S. is near full employment.
Okay so when the Chinese built whole cities and towering apartments which remain empty today, whose fault is that? No one is saying that the Chinese will have to adjust. The CCP is asshoe now and always has been.
I certainly can't tell you how to be smarter. You're at max. You know there are government statistics which are published, regularly. You should also know that the same government statistics are revised, regularly. You also should know how labor participation rates and drop offs in unemployment affect the numbers. We are NOT at "full employment"
Yet... nearly all the economists state the U.S. is near full employment. Do you disagree with all of these well respected subject matter experts who study this issue in depth?
Trump’s tariff strategy is a classic case of creating a crisis and then profiting, politically and financially, from selling the “solution.” At best, the EU–US tariff standoff ends with both sides dropping their average tariffs from around 1% to zero. That’s a rounding error in the grand scheme. Globally, it all nets out to little change. American manufacturers still can’t produce cheaply enough to compete abroad unless they're subsidized, like they already do with that god-awful high-fructose corn syrup nobody smart wants. Across the EU, the “no way are we putting American chlorinated chicken in our bodies” memes from Brexit days will be back in rotation. The so-called “artificial barriers” to US exports are often based on food safety. And those aren't going anywhere, because... well, poison. The reasons behind America's foreign debt won't have been addressed.
'Your question is so stupid' Trump snaps when asked how much economic pain he'd tolerate President Donald Trump lashed out at a reporter who asked how much economic pain he would be willing to tolerate as his tariffs wreck the stock market. A reporter asked whether there was a threshold for economic pain that he would inflict on Americans, and he bristled. "Mr. President, is is there pain in the market at some point you're unwilling to tolerate?" she asked. "I think your question is so stupid," the president replied. "I mean, I think it's – I don't want anything to go down, but sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something, and we have such a horrible as we have been treated, so badly by other countries because we had stupid leadership that allowed this to happen. They took our businesses, they took our money, they took our jobs, they moved it to Mexico, they moved it to Canada, they moved a lot of it to China, and it's not sustainable. We're not going to do it now. We have hundreds of billions of dollars that's pouring into our country on a monthly basis, it's pouring. It's already started because I put tariffs on and eventually it's going to straighten out and our country will be solid and strong again."
