  2. for comics starting out on tv recently. Basically, do it all the time and get enough material for more than just a few minutes. I figure you're close to 50 so you better get crackin' or is THIS your start? Seriously, I think talking about your 23 year losing streak could give you excellent material for an act and it would be fresh to boot! Particularly with the interaction with the wife. You could make it hysterical. I could see you famous.

I particularly admire Jay Leno, not because I think he's funny- but for never cashing ANY of his Tonight Show paychecks to live on. He lives off his comedy gigs and BANKS the checks. Imagine how much that has grown into in the last ten years? My kind of guy! He can buy his classic cars out of petty cash.

It is with a heavy heart that I must report that this “journal” has not been received well by the in crowd at Woodie’s CCI Club. It has been universally dismissed as lacking in humor or serious content.

In a previous thread on ET, an innocent question was asked concerning member feedback on the room. It was met with a barrage of negative responses (imagine that here at ET!), and a sprinkling of passionate defenses. As is the norm on this board, the thread soon drifted away from the original thrust into name calling and character assignation. Any number of complaints were raised, but few had to deal directly with the validity of the indicator and it’s use as taught in the room. Much of the criticism centered around the charge that the room amounted to a cult,

The truth of the matter, in my humble opinion, is that it is and is not. Woodie appears to be a decent and generous man, but he has created a monster in the ultra cliquish “in crowd” that dominate the room. If approached with what they (the “in crowd”) consider the proper deference and humility, any of them are willing to answer questions and provide limitless help. But woe to him that fails to pay the “in crowd” the due they expect. And still more woe to he that attempts to join the “in crowd” as a peer. There is even a “more in than the “in crowd” crowd” A group of perhaps a half dozen room members who have been elevated to almost rock star status. Least you misunderstand, it is not Woodie who has done this, but the members themselves.

Woodie seems to enjoy a pat on the back as much as the next guy, and maybe even an occasional kiss on the ass – but not to the degree that would be worthy of criticism. So I am at a loss to explain how the clique came in to being. But the complainants voiced in the other thread are not without merit. The room is indeed a friendly place, provided one does not attempt to be too friendly, or God forbid, attempt to upset the apple cart.

Your humble servant, the keeper of this journal, has upset the cart with a few good natured pokes in the ribs of two sacred cows – the lovely Gio and the respected Biggs. Being the prick that I am, I’m tempted to really stick a fork in them as payback for the unkind sentiments directed at this writer. But neither individual is a horrid human being – just folks with some quirks, not unlike anyone else. So it would be pointless to take off the gloves to bloody them further.

But what is appropriate is an admonition to the “in crowd” as a whole that the complaints voiced in the previously referenced thread do have merit. Having been around the block once or twice, this writer certainly does not expect this post to change anything or anyone at Woodie’s CCI Club. My only purpose in writing it is the knowledge that it will quickly reach the eyes and ears of the offending lot, and piss them off even more.

I thought you knew it is absurd to try and keep up with the Biggs?

  6. especially when he spells it wrong! My nickname is also Woody.

See the CORRECT spelling. When you spell it with "ie" on the end, it is usually reserved for a pet- like my mother-in-law's dog.

Make him tell you his real name or refuse to use his CCI. Threaten to quit his club!

BTW, if the CCI is so good, which it isn't, why does it need so many "patterns" to get it to work? Ask him that when you ask him his real name.

What's with this club thing anyway? Soon there will be Keltner Band clubs? You would need a lot of patterns to get them to work too. (You know that Charles Keltner came up with those bands in the 60's for corn trading? I read a book on trading grains by that guy. Why in hell would they be the basis for a club anyway)? They've been around as long as CCI so why the CCI club? Why not name the club after the guy who came up with the CCI- wasn't it Charles Lambert if my memory is intact?

Charles Lambert Club has some class to it at least. A gentlemen's club. Doesn't it sound better than Woodie's CCI club? That sounds like some jazz club in Harlem! Since both are as useful as tits on a bull, at least it should sound like it's something you'd want to belong to. Maybe it has a golf course.

    Tampa,

In a setting of true learning, I must not only be allowed to ask questions, but also be permitted to question the answers. Healthy dialogue is the ability between teacher and student to disagree and discuss issues openly in the quest of a higher truth. Ego must never supercede discovery. As a student, I wish to learn, and I do not want to worry about personal attacks or possible reprisals. Without a constructive and healthy environment with which to develop and discover, I'm afraid all that remains is an illusion.

    Best Regards

    Dear Richard,

Your eloquent critique leaves me breathless, and somewhat embarrassed that I failed to address the points you advanced.

You covered things so well that I am left with but one question. May I assume that your mother-in-law had the pet you mentioned prior to your entering the picture? Otherwise I would have expected her to name it Dickie

    Regards,

    Dave,

My experience is that the “learning environment” in the room is more than acceptable. The help offered shortly before, during, and immediately after market hours is for the most part generous and handled well. A few individuals, including Woodie, frequently make themselves available at night and on weekends for extended periods. And I have yet to see any “student” treated with disrespect in the aforementioned insticences. With one exception, and that would be on the days when Gio “moderates”. (Currently Wednesdays.)

By all accounts, Gio is a knowledgeable and successful trader. She appears to be more than willing to share her knowledge. The problem is her demeanor. As previously mentioned, her way of addressing the room resembles that of a third grade teacher. This condescending style draws detractors who are instantly banished. But all to often, a newer member will innocently annoy the lady, who will then put the offender in his place with unnecessary sharpness – at times bordering on cruelty.

Potential difficulties for newer members with the “in crowd” comes during off hours, when they ban together for “chit chat” and “insiders talk”. An attempt to join the conversation can be met with rudeness and dismissive responses.

In all honesty, it ain’t that big a deal. The real purpose of the room is to learn how Woodie trades the CCI, and a serious “student” will indeed learn. But the poor soul who stumbles in looking for comradely can and will be met with hostility. A smartass, such as your humble keeper of this journal, who dares to pass along an observation or two that fails to do anything other than praise – well, that individual is less welcome than cancer.
