As noted in multiple articles the "three letter agencies" advised the Biden administration that the "worst case scenario" in Afghanistan was becoming increasingly likely. The Biden administration simply chose not to believe it.
Fair enough. I should also note it appears that the military disagreed with the assessments from the "three letter agencies" -- based on media speculation.
The British and French are reportedly making excursions into Kabul to get their citizens while the US is not. No bueno. https://www.militarytimes.com/flash...are-rescuing-their-citizens-in-kabul-reports/ Also saw a report on ABC news from an American saying he can’t get to the gate with his kids and that the British are accessible but won’t help Americans. Double no bueno.
I guess the deal Trump made with the terrorists didn't restrict other nations from traveling outside of airport grounds.
We are securing the airport the French and British are using. Technically they do not have a defensive military position so if the shot hits the fan, they fall back under our protection. Now we are limited because we are technically holding the airport, even though the British control a gate. Us leaving and moving forces in and out complicates that. It’s a tough position to be in for us but we are going to have to start moving. The French and British are not exactly helping. Hopefully we can work something out with their special forces making corridors in the city for our citizens. If not, this whole thing can go to shot with US troops going into Kabul, or worse US citizens remain stranded. Something has to change in the next couple of days. The British and French have better relations on the ground right now so ideally they need to step up.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9910153/Blinken-warned-month-Kabul-fall-report-claims.html Biden administration was warned LAST MONTH by US diplomats in Kabul of impending Taliban 'catastrophe' if troops withdrew and urged to evacuate ALL Americans beginning August 1 23 diplomats wrote a memo to Antony Blinken with warnings on July 13 Cable warned of the Taliban's advancing threat and collapse of Afghan forces Also suggested State Department should take a tougher stance on the Taliban The memo also suggested ways to speed up evacuations from Afghanistan Is the latest in a list of reported warnings the Biden administration potentially ignored as American forces left Report is damning evidence that the Biden administration was warned by its own officials of the impending disaster
Of course it's a political failure, it was a poltically driven war, just like Vietnam. This is what happens when you engage in war for political fun and corporate profits. They got as much milage out of it as they could and now it's on to some other bullshit. The game never changes. Never
