Taliban in Kabul as President Flees

  1. There are quotes from Bush, Obama, Trump and Biden who all believed in the Afghan military's ability to hold the fort. Apparently our intelligence departments are no better than children's guesses.

Although to be fair a U.S. prez is not going to go on TV and claim the afghan army is incompetent and ill equipped to defend themselves and invite all the enemies to swoop in..

It must be they wanted to stay to attend the carnival atmosphere of the Taliban victory party with attractions like the Hell-i-copter Bird's-Eye View thrill ride.

KABUL—The U.S. intelligence community concluded last week that the government of Afghanistan could collapse as soon as six months after the American military withdrawal from the country is completed, according to officials with knowledge of the new assessment.
American intelligence agencies revised their previously more optimistic estimates...

Right. This story says the Afghanistan government would stay in power for 6 months AFTER WITHDRAWAL, not collapse in 11 days during withdrawal. Really not hard to understand.

    Thank you.

  6. and to be fair, an 8th grader could have made the same guess based on history where propped up government collapse once big brother pulls out or big brother always fails to hold on to someone else's land from afar..

Pain is a good teacher. When the war drums sound for Iran I really hope we all can learn from Afghanistan.

My opinion is we knew the Afghan government was too weak to hold on and that’s why we stayed too long.

  9. There were definitely a lot of off the record conversations with honest assessments from U.S. military about the Afghani army... from people who remember the same shit in Vietnam and Iraq probably. Afghanis were like, "Why do I need to worry about this is you and several other countries have troops here to run missions and take out targets"

  10. Ms. Lara Trump said in a segment on the conservative Fox News network:

"The fact that we are relying on the Taliban for anything I think is very frustrating to many people in America. We don't understand why we are basically partnering with a terrorist organization for so many people."

Even if you marry into the Trump family you suddenly become dumb as a pile of horseshit...

    March 2020
President Donald Trump confirmed Tuesday that he spoke on the phone to a Taliban leader, making him the first U.S. president believed to have ever spoken directly with the militant group responsible for the deaths of thousands of U.S. troops in nearly 19 years of fighting in Afghanistan. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo witnessed the agreement, which was signed last Saturday in Doha, Qatar, by chief negotiators from the two sides. According to the deal, all 13,000 U.S. troops will leave Afghanistan within 14 months if the Taliban meet their obligations to America. Those promises are tied to fighting terrorism, preventing Afghanistan from becoming a haven for terrorists, denouncing terrorist groups, severing past links with the likes of al-Qaida and helping fight the Islamic State group affiliate.
