How does this HP compare? Refurbished HP 416765R-999-C156 xw4400 XPP OR Duo2 2.0GHz 160GB SATA 2GB DDR2 667 DVDRW(LS) Quadro NVS 440 128MB $692.10 http://h71016.www7.hp.com/html/hpre...desktops_workstations/desktop_pcs#workstation
Not enough info on this to compare them. And, the 440 video card has 128MB VRAM while most have 256. The only 128 versions I've seen were Small Form Factor. If that's the case here, I'd not be in favor. If you have a SFF case and the PSU goes out, you probably can't just run down to Best Buy and get a replacement.
Yes, I ordered a NEW T3400 on the Dell Business site with an E8200 "Wolfsdale" Intel Duo-Core 2.66 processor that comes with the 1333 front side bus and a huge L2 cache with 6 MB's! It's coming with a basic 80 Gig SATA 3.0Gb/s with NCQ and 8mb of cache hard drive, a 48XCD-RW/DVD combo, a 525 watt power supply, 2 nVidia NVS-290 Quadro graphics cards that fit in each of the PCI-Express 16x slots and will support a total of 4 monitors, 1 Gig of 667 Non-ECC RAM ( which I won't be using ), and Windows XP Pro with a 3-year warranty and North American ( English ) support! All for $806 + tax I ordered the computer over the phone because the sales rep said he could save me some money. After we spent 15 minutes on the phone, he came back to me with the SAME price that I would have received had I configured the machine online. I told him that I found this quite "disappointing" and told him that I wanted to cancel my order. He sounded perturbed and asked me why . . . I told him that he didn't follow through on his word and save me any money over me configuring the machine myself online. He asked me what else I wanted. I told him that I was realistic and asked for 5% off. He put me on hold and came back from speaking with a supervisor with 5% off. I then purchased 2 Gigs of PC2-6400 ECC RAM on the Dell website while they were having a memory sale at 25% off. Thus, the computer cost me $806 + tax, and the 2 gigs of memory cost me $90 + tax.
This is not even a deal. I just Q6600 with 20" LCD w/ web cam, 1gb, 250GB, 16x DVD Burner for under $700 included tax shipped. And it's a new one too.
Who makes the computer? Who makes the 20" LCD? What kind of graphics cards are involved in the machine that you "generically" describe above? How many PCIe-16x slots are on the motherboard? What is the warranty?

I disagree. You can't just look at the total wattage of the power supply unit. You have to look at the three "rails" and what kind of amps they provide, such as the +12v, +5v, and +3.3v rail. Dell power supplies have always been "conservatively" rated. In fact, I've seen some 450 watt power supplies on the market that don't even have the +12v rail that a Dell 300 watt unit supports.
