switzerland

  1. I used to go to Arthur's by the airport. There was a door charge of sFr. 30 plus about sFr 12 per drink. Things might have changed now. I don't know if Arthur's was even there.

Better clubs for the price nearby in France. Macumba, etc.

The expensive things in Switzerland would include mandatory full insurance coverage as discussed above, food is expensive, cars, etc.

You know what is funny? I really didn't mind paying taxes in Switzerland. You can see how well the money is managed and spent. I mean you can take a picture from Montreux of the mountains across the lake with the park in the foreground and it will look like a painting. Not a single piece of paper or dog poop or cigarette butt in sight.

The only real problem, I think, as compared to say London or a U.S. city is that the government doesn't promote competition among businesses. Hence, it takes forever to get anything up to date as a service. There are only a hand full of computer shops, for example, and they can all charge an arm and a leg for whatever. It creates this attitude that if you don't like their prices or service, "you can go elsewhere.... oh.... yes, there is nowhere else to go...."

  3. This has changed a lot, really. ADSL connections could be perhaps a little cheaper and faster....

  4. For those who want to see this picture, it's the one on the 'Made in heaven' album of Queen.

  5. is there any tax to pay for imports besides VAT at 7% ? I recently ordered an LCD monitor in the US and had to pay 21 % VAT + entry fee when it arrived in the EU. I was infuriated , I ended up paying as much as in a local store, yes that's how expensive electronics are in Europe . But with VAT at 7% if there is no other import duties you could buy a lot of computer stuff in the States .

  6. There isn't a real advantage to buy computer stuff from the States in my opinion. The local retailer is a better choice.

    VAT is 7.5%.

Import taxes are very high on agricultural products, otherwise I don't really know.

Move your ass out of Europe, man. Why would a single guy in his 20's move to Swiss, when there's a whole world full of hot chicks out there waiting to plase you.:p

  10. Well... wild as in fun not as in "America's Wildest Springbreak Videos". Most of the foreigners from various parts of Switzerland gathered there. I was still in high school at the time and it was great to hook up with the others from international schools from around the country. The party just went on and on and on and the setting was incredible. We would go to sleep for about 2 hrs in the morning and then hit the slopes.
