Doesn't sound likely , didn't the chief kidnapper get murdered?

I would wager most kidnappings for ransoms actually workout ok in that no one is killed or tortured.

it of course is different if the victim is a woman and the motivations aren’t financially related.

Someone was killed yes I understand. Who said, other than this banker, that they guy was the "chief kidnapper"?

I think I know the detective assigned to the case, Inspector Clouseau.

The point is if they are prepared to shoot you then that surely increases chances of torture , and if they arn't prepared to shoot you , don't get in .

the hard part is that they are pointing a gun at you; you have to make the call are they prepared to shoot you. And their decision might change based on your behavior.

Well I can only repeat what I've just said , I've never been shot though I've been close to a shooting , been stabbed , been involved in a few "situations" and I know I would never get in a vehicle under the threat of being shot , I might be manhandled in etc, but that's different , human nature has a very dark side , you don't want to be on the wrong end of it , Getty survived but was wrecked , probably better off dead.

Also as far as I've seen over my lifetime a majority of kidnappings result in death to those taken - and would take nw's wager.

kidnappings of men for ransom in 1st world countries? The only other story I have heard of this happening was Eddie Lampert and they let him walk away. (He went to the police got them arrested and then proceeded to destroy Sears :))

Kidnapping of women on the other hand does not end well.

I don’t know what I would do. It’s definitely an impactful decision with imperfect information.

one of the things I have contemplated a lot and still haven’t come up with an answer.

I am referring to historically in the U.S. - since kidnappings here are very rare nowadays - and in countries (mostly third world) where it is still prevalent.

We all know the outcome for women here in U.S. or anywhere else, that has nothing to do with money but control, is a extremely high outcome rate of death.

As for henry's point think the 4th 9-11 airplane. Didn't work but still. Anyway it is another one of these debates that has no definitive outcome to put to.
