Swing Traders: What are your monthly returns?

Discussion in 'Technical Analysis' started by Smart Money, Sep 25, 2022.

  1. What concerns me about your strategy is that birds of a feather flock together. Seems sometimes you can look at one chart for one stock and another chart for another stock and they look pretty much the same. My concern would be that one failure could be multiple failures because the birds flock together. But to be honest I’m not sure I understand your method exactly.

If selection and timing is right,
Then one bullish week could provides 5%

    Closely watching IMRA,
If we get bullish closes on the index,
This stock can easily go to 3.50 or 5 to 1 R:R

  3. I guess I should answer my own question. I made 20% this month. Mostly Swing trading short ETFs. I didn’t get caught in the wicked bull trap because my system told me to wait for a better setup. Thing is though, even though I have dabbled with methods in the past, I have this ugly habit of continually adjusting and changing my methodology or developing where some portions of my methods are too subjective. This time I feel like I locked that down by developing a momentum riding method that eliminates subjectivity. So far I’ve been able to ride it.

I should add that I know my gains are outsized because the market is tanking and I’ve positioned myself to take advantage of it. I also don’t know how much I’ll give back before my method tells me to sell. I did sell off half about a week ago and didn’t have a conservative reentry method until I made one Thursday and by that time I missed one safe reentry opportunity and don’t see one yet.

Agreed. The thread was always going to produce some interesting Posts, sorta like asking how bigs your Pecker.

But 30% per month? Take that out to a Year compounded, then a few more years!!!???

One of the top reasons that traders fail is having unrealistic expectations.
Get yourself a spreadsheet and see what 20% a month or 5% a week compounds to over a year. What are your chances of accomplishing that?

  8. I’m definitely aware of that. Don’t really need a spreadsheet since I know the rule of 72s. I know my gains are outsized, hence the thread. Trying to figure out what reality is when you play both short and long.

What is wrong with some postings on this thread? Nobody consistently makes 30% per month. Be real.
